Baluchistan is lucky to be part of Pak. They would be worse off as part of Iran or Afghanistan. An independent Baluchistan will be a stone age nation. Prez Mush must try to educate the baluchs so that they can come out of their mediaval mentality. The tribal chiefs who rule as if the whole province is their private property must be dealth with decisively. A modern and united Pakistan is in everybody's interest.
Interesting article!!! It is also surprising that major intl media groups are not reporting on current situation in Balochistan. Why no CNN / BBC reporter is filing reports from the heartland of Balochistan?
Pkl. Jan 20th ,Friday,2006. This essay by sri Alok Bansal of N. Delhi, gives long winded details of last several generations of Baloacis disinclinations to let the the dominant Army elites of Pathan and punjabis of ISI to interfere with their tribal autonomous vast regions and natural resources. However, as a social critic of south Asia ,I feel it must be our attempt to rescue our simple people either in our north-east, Srilankan Tamils or the children of Marris, Bugtis, Kalati feudals and sectarian chowdhuries to accept the compulsions of global civilizational challenges and reconstruction of their lives in the 3rd Millennium instead of trurculently indulge in time-worn parochialisms.Of course Human -Rights must be assured, separatism should not be encouraged for any political mileage,by any body.D. Dear sir Balochistan is a different country. Its culture and topography differs from that of Pakistan.Language is differtent though there is similarity.Independant Balochistan movement was crushed with the silent consent of India.Had balochistan ,a separate country we would not have faced terrorist movements in POK,Kasmir and along indo-pak boarder. It is high time we should recognise Balochistan as aeparate nation.World opinion has to be moved to save poor baluchis and form their own Nation.
look, its simple, NWFP along with nORTHERN areas wanted to be a part of India. they had a good understanding with Neheru. Balochistan though essetially a Afghan area, was divided by the durand line by UK so that they could hold india, essentially Blaoch provice wanted to either independent or part of Afghan. since the durnad line expired in the last decade, and old desires never died out, thats why they burn. Pak, cant let go of that. thats the only depth they have in geog terms of there country and also is natural resource rich area. otherwise they would afghan, iran too close to karachi, which would have meant sindh also clamouring for nationhood. so baloch is an essential area to keeo pak running and intact. even if they have to burn that province, they would.
India should give moral support to any conflicts in Pakistan and also training Camps if possible, set it up on this side of Kashmir....Now how will that medicine work for Pakistan?
Mr. Bansal has allowed hope to triumph expectation in his analysis. While the demise of Pakistan is something to be hoped for it is hardly to be expected. The punjabis who run it are as wily (if not more) than their erstwhile brethren across that country's eastern border. Unfortunately, this attempt by the Baluchis despite all the media hoopla about a united front amongst them will also fail thanks to the carefully orchestrated support Musharraf derives from the US. India cannot (and ought not to) support the Baluchis with materiel (although they should support them diplomatically). Without the support of the outside world, the Baluchis will be massacred and before long give in once again to the military state.
