NO ENTRY FOR NON HINDUS
by Roshan on Jan 04, 2006 05:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I THINK GURUYAOOR TEMPLE SHOULD LEARN FROM TEMPLE AT SHIRDI WHERE DEVOTEES OF ALL CAST, CREED AND RELIGION ARE ALLOWED TO WORSHIP SHIRDI SAI BABA WITH OUT ANY DRESS CODE.

YOU FEEL MORE PEACE WHEN YOU VISIT SUCH SECULAR PLACE RATHER THAN A CIRCUS LIKE GURUYAOOR TEMPLE WHERE YOU HAVE TO DRESS LIKE A JOKER TO GAIN A ENTRY FIRST OF ALL.

Roshan,
Have some respect. what are you so ticked off. The dress code of the temple is and should be respected. This kind of dress code is also complied in Mecca and many other religious places. The only reason the religious places are not open to all and sundry because many people of other faith misuse the liberty. If you open the doors of Guruvayur and other Hindu religiuos places you'll not find many muslims or christians from India flocking the sacred place to bow their heads but you'll find many westerners with their cameras just out of curiosity for a circus they don't understand or respect or have any serious interest in.

Roshan,
you dont seem to understand that temples are not tourist spots. And as for the dress code in temples, nobody is forcing you to go to the temples. If you choose to go to one, you are implying that you are ready to follow the rules governing entry and stay. You can choose not to go,but cannot complain once you have done so

There is no place for fanaticism in Hinduism
by Amar on Jan 04, 2006 05:09 PM  Permalink

This is just sad...what is it that differentiates Hinduism from the other religions..it is the compassion for humanity in general. All should be allowed in all religious shrines. Although I have seen a similar symbol at the entrance of vishwanath temple in BHU, Varanasi..the question is are we going to let hatred from others change our way of life and beliefs or are we going to be strong and compassionate

Ayyappa Temple
by Roshan on Jan 04, 2006 05:04 PM  Permalink

I am a Keralite Hindu who has visited the Guruyavoor temple many times. I believe that the temple rule not to allow other faiths to attend is sheer nonsense and good for nothing. Temple is not a temple if other faiths cannot visit or pray. I thing we are still living in British Raj...where Dogs and Indians were not allowed in many places. Here too devotees have to hide and not let the stupid temple management know and pray and go...I hope these guys will never improve...

First of all you have to get dress like a fancy dress to go inside Guruyaur temple..Pants are not allowed...I would rather prefer to visit Temple at Parshnikadha Muttappan where people from all caste, creed and religion are allowed and you dont have to pay money to visit some stupid temple.

I hope rediff will post my frank opinion on the website: www.rediff.com

Hi, I am from guruvayur. I suggest there should be a separate place for non hindus who wish to pray.

Buddhists ok, other faiths no
by girish on Jan 04, 2006 03:56 PM  Permalink

In your feature "Buddhists ok... you have mentioned that non hindus are barred in Sabarimala also. Kindly note that Sabarimala is famous for its religious harmony and anybody from any religious faith can enter sabarimala temple. I was shocked to know that the scribes at rediff doesn't know this fact.
