If it is true that only6% of criminal cases get convictions and 94% gets acquited then why have a Justice Deparmtne and Police Department? It is absolutely a wasteful expenditure in the society including the activities of the lawyers. Are they not accountable? Bina Ramani and her friends will keep on appearing in P3. but I see the anger, frustration and helplessness in the face of many ordinary citizen. Cant we do something to change our Society?
Just short of saying Jessica never died the police investigation and prosecution did everything else.
What about the owner who was running an unlicenced bar thus resulting in the death of Jessica?? Is there no law to prosecute such people /a "rash and negligent act" resulting in the death??
one of the attendees (to an unlicensed bar) was a sr police officer. He did not see anything?? One day he may even become IG/DGP!!!
i have herd that they were 160 witnesses present there and one by one every one turned hostile! we can go on abt the injustice in our country but have we ever tried to ask ourself why? this case gives answer in simpest form,we are group of cowards and this will keep on happening till we dont stand up for our self.system is as we make it and we have ourself to blame for this inefficent and corrupt system. atleast wakeup now else even worst future is waiting for our childrens. lets bring inqualab and wash this dirt away i am up for it r u.
It is definitely travesty of justice that the court should acquit the accused in Jessica lal murder case on the specious grounds that the prosecution could prove its case. If there were two weapons and two people, that still doesnt prove that Sharma may not have fired the fatal shot. Surely it should be possible to trace back the weapon from the bullet marking to sharma as the legal owner of the fire arm. Then if there was the second person why couldnt the so called hostile witnesses be resummoned to speak? How can one oral statement given under oath be reversed afterwards? Even a petty thief taken to a police station is subjected to third degree treatment to extract the "truth" and surely the courts and the entire police establishment could not have been so blatantly callous to let off a few who chose to turn "hostile" after initially testifying to having seen jessica being shot at close range. I agree with Indira Jaisingh that the criminal justice system should be drastically altered so that just blatant injustice is not anylonger meted out in the name of upholding the tenets of law!
Deam Mam, Being lawyer to Honourable Suprime Court of India, what you can do in this matter to put culprits behind bars resposible to spoil the hole family of Mr Ajit Lal father of Late Jassica Lal. I am ready to contribute my one month salary.
Justice as they say has truly become a farfetched dream. It is only the likes of Dhananjoy Chatterjee who go to the gallows. He must have committed the crime out of sheer lust that was pent up. But the crime definitely haunted him. There was none to forgive him, not that I support his crime. But it is those who use their muscle and money power who get away with crime. Whom should we blame, but ourselves for such apathy and callouseness.
I feel the true culprits are the Police and the Judges. They are not doing their duty with sincerity and loyalty. Suspend these irresponsible Government bodies first. Failure in investigations is the reflection of failure in our System.
