It is definitely travesty of justice that the court should acquit the accused in Jessica lal murder case on the specious grounds that the prosecution could prove its case. If there were two weapons and two people, that still doesnt prove that Sharma may not have fired the fatal shot. Surely it should be possible to trace back the weapon from the bullet marking to sharma as the legal owner of the fire arm. Then if there was the second person why couldnt the so called hostile witnesses be resummoned to speak? How can one oral statement given under oath be reversed afterwards? Even a petty thief taken to a police station is subjected to third degree treatment to extract the "truth" and surely the courts and the entire police establishment could not have been so blatantly callous to let off a few who chose to turn "hostile" after initially testifying to having seen jessica being shot at close range. I agree with Indira Jaisingh that the criminal justice system should be drastically altered so that just blatant injustice is not anylonger meted out in the name of upholding the tenets of law!
