We must stop terror
by St-logic on Feb 27, 2006 09:44 AM  Permalink

If the world wants to put a full stop to killing of people through suicide bombing, we need to exterminate terrorism. What is happening in Iraq after American invasion. Shias are fighting with Sunnis and killing innocent people. It looks some people want terrorism to be a part of their lives!!

...all the while placating us with empty promises.and we beleive in 'alpa trupti' dont we?i m not against the coalition against terrorism, but want us indians to be seen as an important part of it,if not as the leaders.all this talk by our intellectuals at the international forums sounds more like desperate attempts rather than authoritative account of expertise.one thing we have to remember is that we fight our own battle, nobody fights it for us & we have been doing that really well.if others want to join & help themselves they are welcome,we have the experience required for that, but they cant expect us to beg & satiate their superpower egoes.this should be our approach, and our present approach should change.they should realise[or we should make them]that they stand out at their own peril..that they are not doing us any favor in doing so...this is what i want to imply..

international coalition against terrorism!
by tej on Feb 21, 2006 01:48 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

with due respect to the columnist,i would like to express my following opinion.
1]maybe i m a bit ignorant, but i never come across any members of the socalled international coalition against terrorism[icat] calling for affected countries esp. India to come forward & share the expertise in dealing with the evil[or rather to be precise accord us that importance],as much as we do.i always see that its one of our own stressing on the need to fight unitedly while the rest of the world blatantly chooses to ignore us or looks after its own interests, taking hypocrisy to newer heights.is it that we indians should always keep stressing in the mantra of 'sarve jana sukhina bhavantu'while the whole of the world keeps scheming to backstab us?doesnt it send wrong signal to the world that we are too desperate to seek help in fighting terrorism?agreed,a concerted effort is the need of the hour, but till what extent do we cry hoarse?and the greatest irony of all is that this coalition includes the sponsors of terrorism also, moreover we almost go down to our knees in asking the bigbro.to act or take us with him.and the brother keeps hurting us where it hurts us the most[read arms supply]....

DOESNT UNDERSTAND THE FACTS, LACKS UNDERSTANDING OF WORLD AFFAIRS
by aamir on Feb 21, 2006 12:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I request the author to update his knowledge on world history & affairs on how seeds of so called terrorism were sowed & who were the real authors behind it....just putting the blame on some imaginary Islamic front shows his short sightedness on world affairs.
just cos uncle sam throws some bones to you doesnt mean you have to start barking unlogically on world affairs..
my paying tribute to the soldiers died in Iraq who themselves dont why they were sent,u have disgraced the 30,000 odd civlians who lost were brutally killed in order to satisy the thirst for the oil looters..
The CIA & Bush teams of experts must have laugh riot
after listening to you..
Indeed you were a intelligent person talking to a gruoup of intelligent failures..
good luck with your fight against terrorism cos u really seemed to be confused in indentifing your enemies of civilisations..

Reasons for terrorism should be addressed.
by SinghisKing on Feb 21, 2006 12:17 PM  Permalink

While it is ok to suggest measures on how to fight terrorism , one has to also understand that nobody is born a terrorist. If the govt can sponsor mass acts of terrorism such as 1984 riots or Gujarat riots then they create terrorism too. In fact an abusive state machinery is almost always a pre requisite for disenchantment and terrorism to be born.

The examples of Assam , J&K , Punjab etc. will show that an inept political class , a pliant and ineffective bureaucracy , an abusive police force and corrupt criminal politicians have been the SEEDS of terrorism.

Good governance and preventing criminals from entering politics would ensure that such things never happened in India in the first place.

To sum it up. Preventing terrorism is far better than trying to cure it after it has grown..

Factually Incorrect
by Ankush on Feb 21, 2006 11:28 AM  Permalink

It is unfortunate that this keynote address contained factually incorrect data. There have been insances when State Assembly elections have not been held due to terrorism. Elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in 1996, after a gap of 9 years since the last polls were held in 1987. Likewise, Punjab had elections in 1992, after a gap of 7 years since the last polls were held in 1985

terror war
by venkatramanan.m on Feb 21, 2006 11:00 AM  Permalink

There is a slight diff between war on terror in india& world wide. India is fighting terrorism in east with ulfa in west from kashmiri Lt terrorists and in north with maoists from Nepal and all over india with jihadis and naxalites
some imp steps shd be taken
1 We shd reintroduce a law more stringent than pota we shd learn from british
2 a better foreign policy shd be adopted with Nepal we shd not confused with democracy and other principles we shd tackle maoism with Nepal with strong measures and help Nepal with troops etc other wise it will fall into the trap of china this basic fact we shd know and remember lesson from tibet
3 political influences on police cbi and armed forces shd be reduced to minm andfull freedom shd be given to these agencies
4Notainted ministers shd be appointed in state and centre
5An ombudsman shd be formed to include all state and central miniters including PMandCMS
these measures will go along way to do away with terrorisms Local and international
