The author does not list out the advantges that India will gain from such a deal. Just rosy talk about 21st century & technology will not suffice. Also the author seems to be dismissive about the opposition of indian scientists to the nuclear deal. Even in the 21st century there is one factor which all countries' are most conscious of; called self interest. USA is one country that is least bothered about advancing india or any other country in the world except themself. So one has to be very very careful when dealing with USA. Also why did GOI now agreed to put only 14 reactors in the civilian reactor list? So there was truth in the opposition of the scientists and opposition parties to the nuke deal. Recently a leading indian scientist had called the so called analysts who are supporting the nuclear deal as "Stupid Analysts". I wonder whether he meant Sri Uday Bhaskar as one of them ?
USA has tens of thousands of nuclear bombs with most sophesticated delivery system.but its trillions of dollers arsenal on sept.11was proved vulnerable by 15human bombs.question is who is ready to die and who is desperate to be alieve.Bullet for bullet is no answer as retalition shall be sever as human bombs and bilogical, chemical weapons, dirty bombs are at its places.why UASneeds india? let india play its role.
Shri Bhaskar has not listed any benifit/loss statement. As per clauses of the agreement,India loses most and gains nothing.Indian defence capability will be crippled giving big advantage in military terms to hostle neighbours who are all the time preparing to undo India.
Shri Bhaskar being in Govt. service has to tow the line for his own safety.Hence,it is an article to defend a wrong being done by the PM to India's long term interests.
President Bush has very cleverly overpowered PM Man Mohan Singh to India's disadvantage.
1. The basic deal seems good for india in that it helps India over come the issues related to nuclear commerce and technologies. Also our country in time to come can become a supplier of economically priced nuclear energy related technologies and materials. 2. But at the same time, we should retain the Nuclear weapons capability irrespective of whether others recognise it or not. With two nuclear armed neighbours with whom we have been having very troublesome relationship in the last 50 years, there is no way we can jeopardise our nuclear weapons capability. 3. Of course many like the author may feel that the development of India economically and technologically is more important than retaining the nuclear weapons capability, but having invested so many years of effort and having initiated work on thorium based nuclear reactors for power or weapons use, we should not surrender our right to develop this technologies by allowing IAEA or any other inspection agency to interfere in this aspect of our nuclear research. This is one area which can set us free from dependency on oil for our energy requirements.
