TN deserves a break
by Giri Girishankar on Feb 19, 2006 01:44 AM  Permalink

It is high time the DMK alliance is split. Better yet, it is high time the DMK is split. The DMK has outlived its purpose and is just not equipped to meaningfully carry on the struggle for economic development in the initial decades of the twenty-first century.

Maran is a progressive guy with forward-looking ideas. He deserves to be given expanded opportunities to focus in the areas where he has been successful. His initiatives in the field of IT are praiseworthy and he comes across as more interested in technological enterprises than in politics. Karunanidhis game in Tamil Nadu is downright cheap and dirty. He has had his days and richly deserves permanent retirement. It is for the younger generation to carry on the struggle for economic development. Maran represents that generation and his chances for success are much higher with Jayalalithaa and the AIDMK than with the narrow minded DMK leadership.

Tamil Nadu requires dynamic leadership with one-pointed effort in accelerating the technological and industrial development of the region. Together, Jayalalithaa, Maran and Valko are best suited to achieve it.

Vaiko
by P. Venkata Raman on Feb 18, 2006 07:03 PM  Permalink

It is better for Vaiko to have an alliance with AIADMK. Though Jalalithaa looks tough in nature but in reality she is very flexible. DMK once started rowdism against Indira Gandhi and supported V.P.Singh in Bofors Case, now in alliance with Congress and without any shame Sonia Gandhi has forged an alliance with Mr. Karunanidhi. DMK caders are very well known for rowdism whereas AIADMK and Mr. Vaiko are against it. So there is nothing wrong in having Mr.Vaiko to have alliance with Jayalalithaa. So now itis better for Mr.Vaiko to switch his party to AIADMK as majority of caders of MDMK are in favour of this.

DMK'S Contribution to the State
by R.M. on Feb 18, 2006 06:11 PM  Permalink

Many North Indian Media trying to distort the image of Kalaignar Karunanidhi and DMK. I would like to raise the question on the Media side. No Media published the neutral news and everybody getting the cash from political parties to publish news favourably and distorting the original news. I come back to the splitting of DMK of alliance, here publisher given the news without understanding the tamil nadu politics. First they have to understand the repressive government of Jayalalitha who produce liquor to the whole state and supply through the Tasmark and Vaiko is not attractive person to compare with Kalaignar Karunanidhi who has only 4 percent votes in the Tamilnadu. Further I would like to remember that DMK's contribution to the state and language unlimited from language agitation to getting classical position for the Tamil. Finally, My only request is to provide neutral news on the net.

Alliance in TN
by U.Venkatesh on Feb 18, 2006 03:04 PM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Shenoy,

That was a realistic analysis. Nevertheless you have overlooked one factor. The people of Tamil Nadu are capable of discerning between an assembly election and a parliamentary election. In 1980 when Mr. Karunanidhi , who had by then become addicted to power , chose to forget all wounds inflicted on him by Indira Gandhi during emergency and re align with the congress before the mid term lok sabha polls, the AIADMK was badly routed returning only two MPs out of forty seats. Riding on this sweep , he prevailed upon Mrs. Gandhi to dismiss the M.G.R govenment and the grounds were totally icomprehensible. Even before the assembly elections, the DMK made it clear to the alliance partners that it would retain the chief ministership. That was when the same Mr. Karunanidhi who had refused to part with any assembly seats in 1971 to the congress allies, agreed to give more than 100 seats to the congress and bargained for Chief ministership for his party ( himself). The deal was struck but the people of T.N had other ideas and M.G.R . returned to power with a thumping majority. Therefore while the alliance arithmetic no doubt is a crucial factor, it is never a sole factor.

Who Will Gain.
by abishek on Feb 18, 2006 02:56 PM  Permalink

This is not the way politics should apply on public making them fools to vote for their benifis. An alliance may be formed and can be breaked by the other rival only for political gains, and not for public service.Jaya is a leader of a major party in tamil nadu,She must not focus on the cheap business as an leader of an big party.
People are not fools . They must learn to vote for their leader first before voteing.
