Visitng Kolkata from USA-some observations.
by S. Chakraborty on Dec 27, 2006 09:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I was in Kolkata during the Singur takeover by Police and local CPI(M) cadres- visiting home from USA for 3 weeks. Couple of observations:
1. CPI(M) should be thrown out of power-only way is Army rule for at least a year, to neutralize the cadre and criminal strength build over 30 years.
2. For the 1st time CPI(M) did something anti-poor and pro-industry- thats good for Bengal. Hope this succeeds, since in the long term the farmers and the area surrounding the new Tata project will be urbanized. Also farmers are worst off in Bengal and rest of India. They are selling tomato for 50 paisa/kg, whereas the market price is Rs7/kg.
3. Mamata-didi is right about going against CPI(M) rule. ( so Singure is just a story to start with). In fact she is heard to be having food in the toilet at night (local sources), otherwise you can imagine the health condition of someone fasting for more than 3-4 weeks.
4 Finally, no matter what part of India, we should be pro-industrialization -Tata or Ambanis or others, since finally it always benefited the locality. We are competing against China and other far-eastern economies, so some hardship will have to be undertaken initially.

Shame to Rediff

So, the time has come for rediff to become a political site for Trinamul Congress of India. I am shocked after reading the column of Dinesh Trivedi. Who is he? A Rajya Sabha MP of TMC (never won an election from West Bengal). How come some one makes a comment like Tata is like the East India Company of modern days Shame to rediff for publishing such a nasty comment at their site. Why should we believe Mr. Trivedis words, he is biased, he is asking all of us for supporting Mamta Banerjee? What TMC want (I should say what Mamta Banerjee want). Do they have any proper solution of the matter, if Govt. of WB has done some thing wrong? I dont know, because for last 15 years of Mamta didis political carrier, no one can tell that she had taken a single good decision. Friends, I am not supporting CPM or WB Govt. but I do support the development of West Bengal. Personally I am from Jamshedpur, and it needless to say how tata runs their business, it is not only a business for them. They develop a society, where any one can lead a peaceful life with all type of basic necessities. Mr. Trivedi, make it sure after next election you will find Mamtadidi next to your seat at Rajya Sabha.

Why blame rediff? It is democracy & every body / organisation is having right to express their opinion. I think it is engraved in your mind that whatever Govt. authority or for that matter Tata speaks are right and any thing in a different tunes are wrong so, not to publish. This is a sign of nothing but, mental bankrupty.
You may think Tatas are messiah to you. But the people, who are affected, specially who were whacked from their own land - feel just the opposite say, Monster.
I am not a Trinamul supporter. I also believe Industrialisation is necessary. Since primarily Indian people depends on agriculture so, Industrialisation effort & encouragement from govt. should be in this sector. Secondarily, fertile lands are to be spared. There are hector & hector of barren lands are lying all over the country and in west bengal, districts like purulia & bankura. If in the process of Industrialisation, these barren lands get exhausted- then we may think of fertile lands.
I support this movement in these broader spctrum. Singur has become a symbol of the country as a movement against mindless Industrialisation policy which may lead us in future to gross dependency in importing foods

I Agree

I agree with the MP. More important is the life of the farmers not a one lakh rupees car. India wants to be global and they should follows the footsteps of global companies. Work like the global first world countries. All the first world countries give people there market value for the land.

Everyone knows about the rubbish politics Mamata is playing. Even popular opinion in WB is against her and her worthless party. You are like a cheap sounding board of some losers!
