this article is not keeping with the spirits of the day. when everyone is trying to bulid bridges and ease tensions with pakistan , memories and articles about an unnecessary war that happened 35 yrs ago, when most people reading this article would not have even been born, is in bad taste.we dont need jingoism( as defined by jfr jacob) .the need of the day is pragmatism and optimism.oh, god, please deliver us from rediff.com and its follies !!

you think
by Vijaya Kumar on Dec 22, 2006 09:18 PM  Permalink
the peace will come by hiding the history? Talks with these guys go nowhere. They live and die for their religion-no logic works with them. They do not hesitate to commit any crime in the name of the religion. I would like to know more about what is happened. In fact I believe that the 93 thousand Pakistani soldiers who committed nonstop rape, murder and plunder should have been handed over to Mukti Bahni and should have stood trial fro war crimes. Nixon and Kissinger were silent murderers and rapists as they have supported the death and destruction. simply because India has better relations should not mean that history should be shoved under the rug.

I do not agree with you in saying that the article was in bad taste. It in no way ignites the feeling of hatred towards our neighbour but just reminds us of the great victory of our country 35 years back.We should be proud of it..we helped in the formation of a new nation-Bangladesh.It was great that even at that time Mrs Gandhi did not bow down to US pressures and did what was the best for us.Regarding Pakistan everyone knows that it cannot be trusted. We want to be friendly with them but that does not mean that we should reduce our forces just to show we are friendly and in the end what if they thrust another dagger in our heart like Kargil.
This article is very good and reminds us of the sacrifices of thousands of our soldiers and will motivate the new generation.

kannan,
Brigdes are built when there is a hope of going towards some destination. What r u talking about? Our brave soldiers gave there life for the country and it gives an inspiration to a brave man.Men like you don't know what the bravery is and don't have even guts to salute our brave soldiers.Shame on you.You said it was an unnecessary war.So what do you want? Should we give Kashmir to Pak,Bengal to B'desh and Tamilnadu to LTTE? Shut up you dumb idiot.

Kannan,

Please come back to earth! I hope the politians do not surrender Kashmir to the incessant terrorism and the persistent propaganda of the terrorist state Pukistan!

One can make peace with those who desire peace but not with those who are compulsively hostile and will get their way by hook or crook! This terrorist state is infused with the same ideologies of Gazni and Gauri (see even their missiles are named after them!), of hate, bigotry and medieval barbarism. So let us not live in a fool's paradise and see realities from a real world perspective!!

Venugopal,

Which planet are you from? Do you even have a brain to think before spouting off your ignorant platitudes? Stupid people like you and the pathetic politicians are responsible for the situation we are in where the neighbour we are trying to build bridges with keeps carrying ghastly terrorist attacks everyday. Do you even know how many soldiers and innocent civilians have died because of the pakis? Unnecessary war in 1971? Go say that to the 1000's of people butchered by the pakis in bangladesh. You are a disgrace. Enough said.

People who forget history are bound to make the mistakes again. What is the need of the hour is not forgetting history but to remember it. Yes we own a war but we lost peace. Our soldiers will tell you how much they love peace. Even General Jacob will tell you how much he loves peace than winning a war. If we allow peace without respect we will end up having cold war and arms build up not growing economies and reduced poverty.
