yes, we are indians and we take India for granted.
by maninder on Dec 20, 2006 09:23 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Just because you had 2 small kids, why do you expect rules to be different. For them they are Americans

and like all Americans should have had Visa's or Valid documents. Would USA give me two day visa if I landed there without a Visa. Great work by the Immigration Officers at Mumbai.

officials were right
by Chand on Dec 27, 2006 03:43 AM  Permalink
How can you forget the visa while travelling?!! That is the first thing anyone does and checks multiple times!!!!!It is the utter ignorance of the NRI to follow the rules and the officials just followed the rules.

Shameful!
by Mohan Dwivedi on Dec 20, 2006 09:22 AM  Permalink

What officials did was totally disgraceful. They are mean minded people who don't know how to welcome
NRIs,let alone a foreigner.

I am sure this family could have bribed them easily.Perhaps they did not offer any money to Immigration guys and they denied them a visa.

I would like to ask Indian Government (Read one of the most corrupt Government in the world)that when so many Nepalis and Bangladeshis are pouring in India through open borders, why did they not let these NRIs to land?

I remember that when I got a job abroad, they were trying to prevent me from going there because I did not have ECNR stamped on my passport. When I went to the Immigration office at Man Singh Road,I was treated in the same disrespectful way. There I met a tout who said that he could get the stamp endorsed within a few seconds if I pay bribe to the officer who signed this stamp.I paid 2200 INR to this so called bloody officer and got my work done.

These officials should be executed immediately.

It's disheartening to hear the incident happend and Indian. It's truly disgusting to see an Indian official not helping the fellow Indian. I dont think the immigration officials in other nation will behave the same.

Totally Arrogant Behavior
by ramesh on Dec 20, 2006 09:22 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I really do sympathize with the family. Officers in Mumbai think they are the Law. I too experienced such arrogant behavior. I had a visa and the official was so rude, he nearly pulled me by my collar. His Name is Santosh and I recognized he is either from UP or Punjab. This kind of behavior should be brought to halt as India is becoming global and these kinds of officers need to clean toilets rather than be at the airport

How does the Indian gentleman know that the Frenchman has been given the transit visa and the particulars of the case?

Hmm I dont think this is about arrogant behaviour. You cant just walk into a country without any documents. The french guy had his passport I believe where they stamped a Visa which seems fine to me. I dont think any other country would treat you differently,

Immigration denial
by dan on Dec 20, 2006 09:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This incident is very fishy and unreasonable. As it is our airports are fully out-capacitied and people over-stressed. But inhuman behaviour and not willing to reason the qualified well-to-do NRIs and treat them like illegal immigrants is very confusing behaviour to say the least.

Your point only makes sense if the Frenchman was also asked to return for having no visa. Why was he given a transit visa and not the NRIs?
Don't you think it is totally unfair and they are really not following the law? it should be applicable to everybody, why are the whites given concessions in the law?

Why expect so much from India?
by Chandar on Dec 20, 2006 09:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Had this happened to an Indian in US or any such advanced country it would have been fine under the pretext that they are disciplined and blah blah but when we India do the same things we ridcule each other like this....what humanity are we talking of.....we are expecting law makers / implementers to excuse us even if we are to blame or we make a mistake like this one (silly forgetting a VISA!!0...no way...I think this was and should be the right approach. Its high time that people (both NRI Indians etc and Foreginers) take India seriously.

This is ridiculous behaviour by immigrations!

Its even stupid to defend such behaviour! I jst fail to understand why we (Indians)justify anything which our country fails at.

I completely disagree with the comments posted here favouring or justifying the behaviour of the Immigrations authority.

Someone wrote that if u have young kids then the rules dont change for you. Well, let me tell u one thing mister, any authority/country that functions by rule book only without putting the law/rule in the context is stupid. You have to show mercy for the fact that there are young children here and its only a VISA issue not like they smuggled something. Besides, are the authorities saying that they have excellent controls over people entering the country illegaly!

They could've asked the parents to sign a bond and could've given them more than jst 45 mins!

And guys stop blaming people who live outside....It aint like they committed a crime. and jst by living in India u havent done a lot for the country!

Of course rules are made so that peoples' rights are respected,in this case the children's rights are completely ignored and abused. The parents should try the state and its officials in a court of law for the monstrous behaviour by the immigration officials towards the children

Behaviour not insane
by Piyush on Dec 20, 2006 09:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

With due respect i would say that whatever the airport authorities had done was indeed right. That's called the discipline and being on duty you are bound by the rules no matter where you from but Rules are rules you have to follow them.

It's an absolute shame that these Immigration officials behave so rudely with kids. I guess the Immigration official has some personal problem. Shame on him.
