This is not unexpected from our officials!~! I'm an NRI too and i have seen lots of immigration checks in lots of developed and developing countries... well when i enter our nation, its always full of surprises.. some officials have dirty uniform on them, some work on there own phase and some are in-human like the ones we have seen in the Vijay's case. Well god will make all who induce sufferings on others pay for it... lets pray they too pay for this and must repent one day...
So for once, govt officials do their job right and they are being criticised for it? There is no provision in Indian law for a transit or temp visa, thus this story of a Frenchman being given a visa is simply a dastardly effort to malign the officials, and I feel this is just a diversion from the main story.
The same parents would make double or triple sure that if they are travelling to the US, that they have all their paper work in order, so why this carelessness when travelling to India?
Even in the US, the immigration officials would have done the exact same thing, deported them on the next available flight.
I totally support the officials and blame the parents 100% for putting their kids thru this ordeal, it's the parents responsibility to make sure their kids are safe.
What would the USA or a european country would have done if any indian had forgotten to take their VISA. With a visa I have experienced delays in the US and europe. Please also remember our Ex - defence minister was asked to strip at an US airport. What the indian authorities have done is right and as per the law. If there is no provision to grant a transit visa how can the authorities grant one. These are the people who have shed India for greener pastures and they better not call themselves Indian.
First: What parents did was totally irresponsible. Forgot & human are all not acceptable. It is very basic for a person who come to a country must have the papers. Second:Well. on the otherhand.. may be our immigration officials could have still done something.. probably ego played its part.. may be the parents' approach irked them.. but still.. we Indians have great culture and values... we are from the country of Gandhi....I would rather sent father back to bring the original papers while allowing the children and mother to stay, failing which a hefty fine. Third: Given to the fact of so much problems from countries around us (all look like Indians & dark skinned..), let us not talk about skin here... It is typical Indian politician approach... trying to build defence based on matters totally unconnected and trying to coverup the mistake.
I heared about immigration officials that they behave very rudly with indian passengers also. I am proud of my counrty but these things spoil the status and proud of our nation. These officials are not deserve to be official on the air port. This thing is very shamful to us.
I really feel sorry for the kids. In my opinion, even if one makes any mistake, the authorities must help him to resolve the issue, rules are made to prevent any harmfull activities and if in any situation there is no such activity in sight they must extend the helping hand. But unfortunately we are losing our human behavior very fast in the race of materials and we all experiance share coldness and very uncooperative behaviors in our everyday life. Gone are the days of Premchand!!!
Hi all, I read the article, and would like to say that we Indians are truly cowards and slaves to the white skin. I am living in the US as a student, and I feel that no one cares about us. As NRI's we support our motherland in many ways, but unfortunately folks back in india are worthless. The officers could have waited for sometime before the documents were faxed, but it shows real stupidity on their part. I think the officers on duty should resign, and take moral responsibility of the Inhuman behavior. Thanks
I feel ashamed at robotic behavior of Indian airport officials. Some of the comments are surprising as well. Forgetfulness is human, I don't think any grown up would not have forgotten a thing or two in ones life. What extent of punishment do you think one should get for this mistake, should one be hanged too? As for the official's behavior, they are in great pain Pain, that everyone seems to be coming or going to or from abroad, except themselves. They need to see others in tears so that they can comfort and console themselves. They keep punishing travelers with one excuse or the other. Someone highlighted the importance of the ugly word called duty. When they granted 2 days of transit visa to French nationals was it against their duty? Think out of the box - the country and its borders are man made, in existential dictionary there is no such thing as country. To sum it up, I just want to see the robotic officials fired.
I did read the story about the ordeal at the Mumbai immigration. It is just not at the Mumbai immigration that the officials are rude. Even in Kerala, the so called God's Own Country, the immigration and customs section at the Kochi airport is manned by Devils. I suffered a different kind of ordeal three years ago just because I happened to have a passport issued from Bangalore and took a flight from Kochi. out of sheer necessity. They gave me a feeling that only passports issued in Kerala are genuine while others are fake. They even have a separate counter for passports not issued in Kerala!!!!! Who do these fellows think they are? Is Kerala a separate country and not a constituent of the Indian Republic. I must say it is just plain jealousy about their fellow countrymen going to greener pastures, that is fuelling this attitude. The only solution to such problems are by having an impartial and considerate individual as a Grievance Redressal Officer appointed by the Ministry of External Affairs at all airports (24 hrs and seven days). In addition, the customs and immigration departments should be able to attract more youth with better pay and perks. We don't need cribbing oldies.

Karthikeyan , First try to leave your home town and then talk. Its very easy to say things when it does not happen to you. Either u work for the immigration or has zero or no values for human compasion.
