Mumbai Immigration officials
by Vidya Ramanathan on Dec 21, 2006 12:54 AM  Permalink

I completely emphatize with this family. I have seen how cold immigration and custom officials are towards Indians at Mumbai airport. Its terrible that while you may be treated with respect around the world, in your own coutry you get treated like dirt! Whenever I pass thru the immigration and custom in Mumbai I am terribly ashamed of my Indianess. Thats the only time in my life I feel so awkward being an Indian. Its pathetic.

Deportation
by Ronald on Dec 21, 2006 12:49 AM  Permalink

Hi Vijay,

1)Do you think the US immigration officers would allow your kids on humanitarian grounds if you had forgotten their US visa's (had they been travelling on Indian Passports)?

2)Would you think the US immigration would allow your kids entry to US on the basis of faxed documents? - You would not had the chance of the 30 mins which was granted by so called rude officers.

Lastly I agree partially that Air France officials should be punished and sued for their inability to check valid papers before proceeding travel to a foreign destination. I do not agree that Indian officials although no excuse for being rude should be blamed for following the rules of engagement. However if you have the french national contact info where he was allowed entry to India without a valid visa then the officer's involved should be dismissed and an internal inquiry should be initiated.

Hope this is an eye opener to all who intend to travel with the requisite travel documents.

Ron

It can happen only in India
by Sashi on Dec 21, 2006 12:47 AM  Permalink

It can happen only in India. We don't treat our own people well but ready to slobber on people from other Countries. I am not surprised after reading what happened. Vijay, probably you should have tried giving the guy just 100 rupees. And what is that senior official doing at home? I am truly ashamed when I go back to India to visit my family seeing the attitude of the offcials there. India has big plans of getting rich and big based on NRIs and see the treatment they get when they want to visit India.

Why didn't they wait for the fax?
by Aniruddha on Dec 21, 2006 12:44 AM  Permalink

As somebody mentioned before, whenever we land in Indian airports, the officials starts harassing us. We get better treatment in foreign airports. I think the couple should take responsibility for forgetting the Passports, but why the officials didn't wait for some more time for the fax to arrive. The officials at Indian airports are more concerned to show that they are the "BOSS". They generally ask very stupid questions to Indians, which should be none of their business. We have to endure to avoid further harassment, as there are generally nobody superior to tend to complaints. Furthermore, nobody picks up the phone, the hang up without resolving issues completely etc. It is true, that many Indians start to feel superior with green cards in their hand, but the other is also true that officials behave rudely to non-resident Indians (OK, they behave rudely to resident Indians too, just a bit more for non-residents).

And yeah, we should be superpower by 2010, according to Rediff.

by Nm on Dec 21, 2006 12:37 AM  Permalink

Mumbai Immigration is one of India's best immigration services in th country with the state of art technology in REFUSING Visa to POI.

I want to know when the servant of India is refusing visa's, Why the Boss of these servants- Dr.APJ and Dr.MMS are inviting POI to invest in India. Why are they introducing dual citizenship programs.

Leave all this crap.

Mr. Mumbai Immigration,

We appreciate ur scrutiny procedures. But Please be aware most of illcit trafickking is coming only through mumbai. We know U also know that. Please show ur concentration on those things and not on poor children like this.
