Law is the same for anyone irrespective of color, creed
by Praba on Dec 21, 2006 04:22 AM  Permalink

Understand the pain of Vijay & their family

But the law is the law. When you do the same in the western Country they won't allow you to enter their country.

When it happened in USA or in Western Country we won't cry and digest as it is the law.

But as a humanitarian ground, the immigration official

should hear their concerns.

But as a Educated and being working in USA for 9 years, you should know what is expected while travelling to any country .

The fact is that We are Indians and we will take it easy since it is India and Indian official, we can bribe and anything can be done (sap salthakey attitude)

Kudos to Immigration Official. But they should approach it in humanitarian grounds

If the immigration official favored becase of skin, they should be punished

I am embarassed for India, and my town Mumbai
by Chips on Dec 21, 2006 04:21 AM  Permalink

This is insane! The bad guys walk across the border day and night, and

alegitimate family, that just wanted to visit "home" was denied. It is

cruel, and callous behavior. While the agents were in their rights, a

certain degree of intelligence and humanity could have been applied to

help the poor family, and cover the paperwork. This incident must be

investigated to get a clear picture of the situation, and prevent such

inhuman treatment of legitimate travellers.

Dad's fault
by Kedar on Dec 21, 2006 04:16 AM  Permalink

Why this question about brown or firang. That frenchman might have had a return ticket or a ticket for onward journey within 3 days. Had this guy (father) tried to find out about that? Does anyone give a visa (evem two day transit visa) without the proper documentation?Whyis he blaming the Indian officials for what is clearly his fault and even if we do give enough leeway to the fact that he genuinely forgot to get the visas, it is the fault of the french officials who should have ensured that the people WITHOUT INDIAN PASSPORTS (kids) have the correct visa papers to get into the country. Don't blame the Indian official. Let me see him try that with any other country. Ofcourse he will be sent back if there is no provision for visa-on-arrival... which India should have by the way...

this is pathetic!!
by RAHUL KAPOOR on Dec 21, 2006 04:14 AM  Permalink

airport authorities behaved inhumanly, these guys should have given at least 3-4 hours to get the docs.
I am shocked at their behaviour.

This is a matter of great concerns to all the immigrants of indian origin ; it may happen to any one of us.

officials please stop behaving like stone age !!!
this is 21st century, have your records updated, knowing that these things are still happening, Indian Govt. must device a policy and document it..

No surprise.
by Babu on Dec 21, 2006 04:08 AM  Permalink

It is of no surprise to me either. Can you go to USA and tell the immigration cops you forgot to bring your visa with you? Not that you would unless if you want to see cuba. I agree it was a great pain to travel back, but should be proud that India is improving and getting to know the law and actually enforcing it!

Before travel get to know what you have to carry it with you and avoid the avoidable.

It is shameful
by Devki Goyal on Dec 21, 2006 04:03 AM  Permalink

This is really shameful for whole India.

I don't think now Vijay will ever think of coming back to India even for vacation.

I am not saying we should go beyound rules, but if parents are citizens, some flexibility may be offered on uman basis like giving the time parents are asking to produce papers.

I am sure there were other methods if officers were willing to help.

'Forgot' the visas??
by Chandni on Dec 21, 2006 04:02 AM  Permalink

I would like to ask would they 'forget' to carry their Green Cards on the way back to the US, and if yes, how would they expect to be treated.

Mumbai immigration deports kids -inhuman behaviour is very common in India!!
by guna08 on Dec 21, 2006 03:56 AM  Permalink

Inhuman Behaviour by the Government officials are very common in India. These Government officials think that they own India but the fact is that make their leaving by the tax we pay..Shame on those guys.

You guys would have resolved this if you have put a proposal of gifting 500USD (decent way of describing bribe)to the ACP.....These are very common and I have done these things several times including getting a drivers license without even being in India....

Re: Mumbai immigration deports kids!
by sub777 on Dec 21, 2006 03:55 AM  Permalink

There is no racism here. A transit visa is valid for three days. Once granted it cannot be changed. The Frenchman was likely staying for 3 days or less. In the case of the family they were on a 4-week holiday and hence the transit visa could not be granted. Before we yell racism we should check the facts.
