State of India's Democracy.
by Dr.Chandran Peechulli on Dec 06, 2006 06:06 PM  Permalink

This incident, should turn out to be an awakening to the general public, of whom they have elected. How can such incident be encouraged while they are elected to instill better governance of the state. We need to put AN END TO ALL THIS, FOR BETTER GOVERNANCE by instilling Law and Order.

Dr.Chandran Peechulli,Chennai.

DEMOCRACY MEANS TO DO THE THINGS IN DEMOCRATIC WAY!!!
by rcpillai on Dec 05, 2006 08:54 AM  Permalink

Indian Democracy is matured, but our elected members doesn't know how to rule a country in a democratic way. It means, Indian Politicans are immatured to rule this country in a democratic way since they don't have the minimum knowledge of democracy and how to behave. We are seeing the undemcratic attitudes and behaviours showed in various state and parliament by the members but, it is happening because members of ruling parties are wanted to supress the voices of opposition members. Ruling party members, especially Speakers are more role to see the voices of opposition to be heard at any time since there lies the true democracy. If we fails to do so, this system is not suitable to India and we will have to find out another way to rule this country.

ashamed to be from bengal
by ss on Dec 02, 2006 10:09 AM  Permalink

This only proves Mamata Banerjee is a poor loser. She is trying to hide her defeat by resorting to such atrocious acts of violence. I am not a left front supporter but acts like this by the biggest opposition party in bengal leaves me with no choice...indeed a very sorry state. She proved again her whimsical attitude and her lack of political acumen...by the way what is she trying to prove by stopping the first major industrial investment in the state? I would definitely like to go back to my state and work there and not stay in some foreign country....hope bengal gets back its glory days!

The State of India's Democracy
by Dhiren on Dec 02, 2006 03:35 AM  Permalink

While protest is legitimate in a democracy, vandalism is not. If it is done by members of the elected community who are in fact supposed to uphold values of the country, it is a shame.

In my opinion, the party responsible for such acts should be made to pay for this. The Government should pass a law that enables them to cut salaries of MPs and MLAs to pay for any such damage. This is the only way they can become more responsible.

The state of India's democracy - What democracy?
by labrea on Dec 01, 2006 10:06 PM  Permalink

This is what passes for democracy in this stinking land, and no one is exempt - not only are the politicos all hooligans, but a vast majority of them are outright criminals, a la Shibu, Lalu, Sidhu, Maya, Jaya et al. The $64 question:what punishment, if any, will these hooligan netas receive?

Will India survive democracy; Will Democracy survive India
by Sudhir Bisht on Dec 01, 2006 08:07 PM  Permalink

I was speaking eloquently to some of my African friends, about the many merits of democracy over dictatorship.
The setting was perfect. We were all relaxing in the air-conditioned comforts of my spacious office after a sumptuous meal of pounded yam and catfish. As usual the laptop was showing the rediff.com home page. I clicked on the title "The state of India's democracy" thinking that I would be able to read out something good about the success of democracy in India.
Confidently I clicked on the title and what followed can be summed up in one word. I was silenced in SHAME.
Cheer up my Leaders. Thank you for challenging the most loved method of governance. Thank You for telling us that we were better off when the white men ruled with an iron hand, beating us into slave submission.
Thanks for telling Col. Gadaffi that all countries are not ready for democracy yet. Thanks for saying that if Bengal, the most cultured state of India can do it than why expect anything at all from Bihar? Thanks for making the Congolese and Sudanese war groups a little more bearable, a little less harsh. I don't know if India will survive democracy or the democracy will survive India.

The state of India's democracy
by abhinav on Dec 01, 2006 06:54 PM  Permalink

The bedlam done in the state parliament of WB and its subsequent display throws a light on the pathetic level we have reached as a nation. The very citadel of our highly esteemed democracy is reduced to such sham. It was destructed in closed walls and is now open for public exhibition. Is the WB government trying to score a morale high over Trinamool Congress?
The Trinamool Congress members should be banished forever from active politics for bringing such shame to democracy.

Attitude.
by Amol Prabhudesai on Dec 01, 2006 06:44 PM  Permalink

That attitude "whose father what goes" like shows us we elect those who do not deserve to be in that democracy temple, which has highest regard for people. I am ashamed to say that we r living in a largest democracy of the world..
