I am also against this Q word. As you mentioned in your article that we are having young MPs but not listening to the youth. They are also before the vote as they also want to enter to parliament again after their tenure. These so called "YOUNG" MPs are also driven by those bloody OLD MP who has no MIND. They think only how to increase their vote bank and money. We need Young MPs who think for the nation and who can drive their ideas theirself not by the others.

Your write-up on QUOTA.
by RAM SAJIVAN on Aug 30, 2006 10:37 AM  Permalink

Sir,

I am of the opinion that the reservation facility be given to only one child of the couple( below poverty line ) provided one or none of them( ie. parents) have been never availed the reservation facility in their life.

If both the parents( ie. husband and wife ) have already availed the reservation facility in their life, their children should not be given reservation facility.

Quotas: A suggestion
by Gaurav Mittal on Aug 30, 2006 10:37 AM  Permalink

very well said! but who is going to take the lead? who is going to ignite the young minds and force them to come out of the 'chalta hai' and i don't care attitude?

I can suggest that Rediff can take the lead, beacuse of the power of media. It should come forward and organize a series of debates, writing competitions and everything for the college and school students alike. Probably such a long campaign will have an impact?

I dont agree

i am an forward caste student and i believe india hasnt yet crossed a stage wer reservations can be removed. i am speaking this from my recent xperiences. i am from a remote village and am myself a victim of reservation policy many times before reaching my masters level. even the most advanced nations still require reservations in many categories and as of india, reservations based on caste and gender should continue atleast for one more generation. if at all there is anything tht shud be changed, then i wud say it is the total number of seats available for forward castes tht shud be increased. but we have taken advantage of dalits or harijans or SC's and ST's for quite long and wen i look from tht point of view rather than who is taking political advantage of reservations, i realize and hav first hand xperience of wt reservatinons have done to many in my village and my neighbourhood. v r not a nation of billion citizens but a nation of billion villagers....and lets not forget to look at villages wen making most of these comments !.

Regards.

I am high caste brahmin but deprived admission in medicine simple because I am not SC/ST/OBC. But that does not stopped my career. I have accepted that as a challange and right now I am working in a good company and heading a department. But all my friends from my college who were with me from SC/ST/OBC who enjoyed with me who never uttered a word about his caste and creed are still completing their education in Medicine. What is the use of such reservation. But the biggest joke is that the same guy proudly annoucing me that he got the admission in a Medicine and that is the time when I have lost my calm as he has got less marks then me. If he requires 15 years to pass M.B.B.S. which I would have completed in 4.5 years then only god can help all those patients treated by such doctor.

In case any health problem do you visit a doctor who is from SC/ST/OBC grade.

I am sure you will never. Then why are you are asking for the reservation. Let there be reservation on economic weak candidates which should not include all those big farmers.

dear mr ranjan,
merit is a myth in india, competition should always b between equals, ours is a highly unequal society with the best of everything cornered by the
higher castes thanks to 5000 years of reservations
for the upper castes under vARNASHRAM . it will take another 5000 years to correct the wrongs done by vARNASHRAM. present reservation system is the only visible system, although not properly implemented by the antagonist 'higher castes ' babus. Besides why do v need docs & engg from UC's when actually they migrate to US to serve the whites for dollars. those from the backward castes may at-least go to villages & serve or even if they follow the UC's in goin to the west than why should anybody complain now. if merit is to b considered than why not recruit international candidates who r the real merit holders as compared to r mediocre ARJUNS.
jai-hind.

Quota opposition
by k k vaisoha on Aug 30, 2006 10:32 AM  Permalink

Korea by investing heavily in education reached over 90% literacy by 80s while in 1947 they were no better than India.

Normally one would like to think that our intellectuals would contribute ideas about how to secure rapid march forward for our country but it is disappointing to see that anti-quotaites seem to be people of low IQs dominated by apartaheid mindset like that was prevailing in Europeon origin settlers in South Africa. It was a movement launched by Mahatama Gandhi that eventually got rid of the apartaheid minded lot.

Our India of date has become extremely corrupt and shamefully selfish. There is no national feeling for advancement of the nation on double quick march. These low quality persons have become a brake on India's march forward.

It is shocking that we are infested with disgraceful persons who do not want India to move forward. These are an utter disgrace and pain to the nation. No wonder China has forged ahead of India.

Mere paas quota hai...
by Raveesha on Aug 30, 2006 10:32 AM  Permalink

Mr. Narang,

Your comments are rather tongue-in-cheek, You appear to have penned this when you are angry and out of your senses. Yes India never needed reservasion. Your fore fathers should have realised this hundreds of years ago when they enjoyed unwritten reservasion system by keeping a major chunk of the society out of the system. The result is only you guys are intelligent today, efficient today, can produce movies today, can act in movies today etc., I wonder what would be your reaction today if you belonged to the other side.Reservasion is only a dot effort towards correcting the maladies of past sins committed by a negligible section of the society

Reservations in Educatio , Jobs etc
by Balajee on Aug 30, 2006 10:30 AM  Permalink

The current government and the other governments are doing exceptionally well in implementing reservations in our country. They are encashing on the way that the British has taught us. Divide and rule. It is good that we implement reservations in sports, health care, employment, private sectors ,business and all the other places that we can think of. May be the government can try to implement reservation on students going abroad for higher studies and employment also. This can lead to further division of our country and result in riots etc. This will benifit in vote banks for the government.

The government is making a good effort in squashing the deserving candidate's effort and giving the space to the one who has not worked for the position.

In a recent debate on reservation it is seen that the reserved candidates feel that the government should do more on the reservation front. Well the governmet can reserve 100% of seats to the Sc/ST/BC/MBC etc. The OC need not compeet in this.

Hats off to the government on its work its mission and vision.

Let us help the government in this provess.

We should remove the Q-word from the Constitution of India
by Deepak N. Thanekar on Aug 30, 2006 10:28 AM  Permalink

Thank you for writing such a good article. I feel all these words are mine. Only they are written by you.

Your suggestion is very true that we shall start reservation from the Loksabha itself and we shall take it to the film industry. Not a bad idea. If politician thinks that it will not raise the name of India then why only reservation in IIM & IIT?

As you rightly said there are 80% dropout in the schools, we shall improve the basic educatin level in the reserved classes. For this taking help of NGO's is not a bad idea. I think people from upper classes will also support and help in this cause.

As you said "How can anyone forget what democracy stands for? Is it about dividing people along caste or religion or state or colour or quota? There will be time when every religion will have its own quota system."

I have seen that these reserved class people are taking the facilities even when they are rich. This shall be stopped and sgall be given to only poor people from all the class.

Writer ont know what he is writing...
by CYBA on Aug 30, 2006 10:24 AM  Permalink

Your article is like c grade Bollywood masala flick. I dont think you understand why reservations is there. You have mentality of FC so unless you go in our villages, slums and talk to the people who have struggled to earn their bread and butter, you will never understand why reservations is there... one point I want to make... lets fight between you (FCs) and us (OBC/SC/STs)... because we want reservations... keep politicians out cause last 60 years OBCs are pushing for reservation.. its not come from air today... politicians may have their agenda, but implementing reservation is our agenda too... so lets fight on street... not using your pro upper-caste media... come on road... will show how divided we are? Will show why there is drop outs and how your policies responsible for that. What is your place in out mind...

It just matter of time... dont quote Ambedkar in wrong way... he told us... that get educated, get together and start struggle... he told unless WE get into power this county will not change or caste system will not eradicate... so you can say this is the start only ... one day we will cut down all your bias thoughts to the ground... Jai Bhim
