Reservations
by Sanjay on Aug 30, 2006 11:38 AM  Permalink

Whenever the question of reservations come up the privileged class and caste in this country comes up with this bogey of "MERIT".

Instead of addressing the root cause they harp on the quality of the medicine. It's convenient to challenge reservations and not the caste system.

When can we see a heading like "Time to make India a no caste country". Does anyone have the guts to do that? Look in your own lives and homes how caste plays a decisive role in society. It's true that this role is being challenged due to economic status and western education to some extent but for a large majority of those who are born in Hindu society caste operates like a shadow boxer. Reservation is only one of the methods to correct this anomaly albeit imperfect. But it's a social and political remedy not a generic one.

Let those who speak agains reservations come out with a better solution to address the aspirations of the backward castes.

- Sanjay

No Reservation
by vijay on Aug 30, 2006 11:38 AM  Permalink

I totally agree that the time for Reservation is over, even giving reservation for generations should be stopped. give reservation for one generation then they are in normal category their kids fall in normal category and not in reseravtion category, this will help our country in a better way. No Reservation is the only way to survive. If we have to compete globally wither all your fears take it head on head with no added benefits.

No reservation
by Raghu on Aug 30, 2006 11:37 AM  Permalink

Dear Friend,

I appreciate and totally agree with your say.Iam against reservation though iam from OBC.I don't believe this reservation is helping the bottom line people. Iam just wondering why do we need reservation in education? when everyone has the same brains.

This useless politics should be wiped off from our country, they are thinktank guides them to look for powers and no good for public like us.

Moreover if the reservation are increased in a such a rate, our permier institution(IIT and IIM) will loose their fame in the global communnity.Which is not advisable to happen.

Someone from one of our generation can change this facts. Our politician should think in a different perspective,if they really care about our country, rather than counting on their vote banks.

Reservations-a bane to India's progress
by sabi on Aug 30, 2006 11:36 AM  Permalink

When reservations were first suggested, it was after taking into consideration the situations prevalent in the 1950s.We have had reservation for the past 60 years. It is high time for reservations to GO.

We claim to be secular which means IRRELIGIOUS.Where is secularism when we protect certain sections of society on the grounds that they were "fortunate "enough to be born into a particular community?
Through such backward policies the nation will suffer.Ask today's youth, no one wants reservation, everybody knows that the deserving and meritorious ones should be given opportunities, that is the only way the country will prosper. Can you compare govt companies and PSUs with their reservation policies to the well run private sector companies where things are strictly done on merit?
Now the govt wants to bring done the value of our premier institutes and of the private sector through the out dated policy of reservation. How many of the children of Indian politicians and bureaucrats have to suffer the malice caused by reservation? How many of them get educated in India? It is the children of the "aam jantha" who will suffer ultimately.

Reservation

I like the article. Even I agree that the Reservation should be on the basis of poverty line. It should not be based on caste, creed and religion.

I totally agree with authors view. Quota system is totally a political move by congress party for securing their votebank. government has to give more attention on primary education for backward class. reservation should be given on economical basis. if india wants to become a developed nation then merit has to given a chance and not a quota.

Nadiya,

You better think and imagine end of Pakistan, as per US, Pakistan is a failed state.

Failed people can colapse at any moment. And the colapse will start from Balochistan.

Thanks,

Dinesh...

One more thing Nadiya, the kashmiri people are Shiites for your information. Kashmiris and Shiites have mental attachment only with Iran, not with the bloody Pakistan!! So, Kashmir is a hoax created by you and remember it very strongly that, Kashmir is an integral part of India and will be forever!! Afterall Shiites can not imagine of joining the hands of the bloody Sunnis!!

Brings all our heart to this Article
by magesh on Aug 30, 2006 11:31 AM  Permalink

The author has articulated reservation issue with a great sense. Every one who supports Reservation should read this, especially the Tamil Nadu Government, the Chief Minister Karunanithi should read this, if required someone can translate this in Tamil for him. He should answer where his grandson, granddaughter are studying? If he supports reservation, let him make them study in India and work in India.Reservation is a political weapon handled by all parties. Let us somehow stop this.
Kudos to author for bringing light of the facts. He did not merely say no reservation but justified his claims with some many questions which should be answered by those in the Top moving the coins for reservation!-Venkat/Magesh

Q for Quota....
by Nagendra. on Aug 30, 2006 11:27 AM  Permalink

"Q for Quota". This stands valid only in India.
What you have said is absolutely correct. But in a country like India, Politics plays a major in deciding country's future than any other sectors like engineering, agriculture. Sure, there will a time when General quota be considered as a minority group. I say strongly, Quotas based on caste, religion, creed, color or region will put the development on peril. To uplift the people in poverty, give them subsidies, reservations.
But who will listen to us... PM or President...Who???

Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka Jayahe...
Bharat Bhagya Vidhata.......

Who will be that GOD(Vidhata) who changes the destiny(Bhagya) of India towards betterment of people and country... not of Politicians..

Nagendra.

Great Article.
by Punit on Aug 30, 2006 11:23 AM  Permalink

I couldn't agree more with you. The politicians have been successful in giving this entire episode a casteist colour.

Those opposing the reservations have been portrayed as selfish souls who do not care for the illiterate population of India. And they themselves are trying to play God Father by making hollow statements like "committed to fulfilling the promise of giving education to the backward community". The biggest irony is offering the bait of reservations in the most prestigious institutes in the country, when the real backward are dropping out of schools. The level of their commitment to education of the backward is clearly visible.

Another word that has been abused is "social backwardness". Agreed that education can help in removing the social backwardness. But, why have double standards and claim that the socially backward remains socially backward even after 2 generations of taking advantage of reservations!

I feel sad that even the educated population of India is not rising against the govenment. They will feel the pinch when their own sons and daughters do not get admissions to good colleges just because the politicians wanted to appease a OBCs !!!

Wake Up.
