I strongly agree with this, and why don't our youngsters form a new party ARP (Anti Reservation Party) with the primary agenda to free India from this curse of reservation based on religion/caste.
Let us all caste out votes to these party and atleast our current political leaders understand the strength of people who stand against Reservation. Let us prove that we can also change the fortune of any political party in the forthcoming elections.
That was a very nice article. 2 points that stand out for me are: a) the issue of primary education for all instead of a simplistic solution like reservation in higher eduaction which will benefit only creamy layer. b) the vote ban politics and the hypocrisy of all political parties.
I must say the article is really thought provoking and a must read. gr 8 stuff
Yes I Do agree reservation should be given on the baises of poverty not on the basis of Caste / religion. If Govt really want to help bakcward class people they shud help them by providing education facilities not by reserving seats for higher sutdies like AIIMS,IIT,IIM. Student should be selected on the basis of their intelligent.
But Rajat, it will not be possible unitl unless we start thinking like an indian rather than a person from a particular caste. Everyone knows (including the politicians and the people getting benifit out of the reservation) that it is not the right way to have the reservation in education. We need to remove the problems from the root level, as you mentioned the drop out rate is so high so we need to concentrate on that. And the reservation should be on the poverty basis because if someone is not from the higher caste and has good income; then why does he/she needs reservation. It is just a matter of selfishness. When we will think about the country before ourselves I think we will have a very good future of the youth and country.
Also for the nationwise integration, I would like to talk about the concept of renaming cities, pressurizing regional languages in different states and dividing the states. I remember when I was in school we have only 25 states but now it is much more than that and if we will keep doing like this the time is not far when we will have again 500+ states in india and we have to call Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel from the heaven to unite us again.
I want to say to Mr.Arjun singh and his follower only that pls come out side and see the problem faced by the open catogory student. They are not able to find good job in governments. They are not able to take admission in good discipline though they are eligible for the same.Come nfront of the people and discuss the issue.Seating in parlament you must nor take any descision on reservation. Its a weapon to all the polytical parties.
Being from the so called upper caste, a Brahmin, a hated 3% minority mind you,I feel that the solution could be to ensure free education to the 12th Standard for all reserved categories. If there is reservation, be it only on economic basis, irrespective of caste or community. Also, the reservation should lapse beyond the first generation that has utilised it, thereby putting a time bar on it. For those who harp on reservation, I have just one argument. All of us prefer the best of schools, doctors, restaurants, etc,in other words, the best that we can afford. When merit is the basis of our choices in life, why should'nt we phase out reservations? Would Meira Kumar send her family members to a Doctor from a reserved category, or the best doctor, irrespective of category?
Hi, all this is really annoying, but now i want to ask all, that what should we do to end this dirty game of "quota" started by our unreserved politicians.
The author completely misunderstands why reservation had come in the first place. It is not because of poverty that we lack behind in education. It was because the less fortunate people were denied education by the so called high class people. If you look at the history you will know. If still u want to deny them this then there is something wrong somewhere in our thinking. Let is grow up. The backward people represents more than 65% of our polpulation.

Dear Sir, You are totally wrong that education was denied. We have been having reservation at all levels for 59 YEARS.. where has it brought us to.. Still 49% below poverty line and millions of villages without power. You are falling a prey to politicians who are cheating you, telling you they are helping the down trodden. If We have only 51 % of people above poverty line ( again a very low income at best) after 59 years of reservations, then there is something totally wrong with it. The wrong in it is that it has not been implemented at grass root levels with education for all towns, villages, metros etc. Govt after govt has failed and now trying to remedy the situatin but in fact actually trying to maintain the same level of poverty so they can buy cheap votes.
All of us know that elections are won on bottles of liquor, briyani and a few rupees in most constituencies. Imagine 90% people above poverty line who cannot be bought by liquor and briyani,, all the present day politicians cant be elected. That is the real reason for the continuation of reservations,, It is nothing but putting people in a frenzy over caste lines as India is emotional. Wake up . this is 21st Century
