Vande mataram should be recited with pride
by nagesha on Aug 24, 2006 03:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I strongly propose that Vande Mataram should be recited with pride and not because the govt. is asking us to. In every other communal debate, Muslims try to prove it with so many irrelevant examples that they are 'true Indians'. If they feel there first loyalty is to the nation and second to their religion, then why hesitate in singing it. It just clearly shows that they identify themselves with the global islamic community and not with this great nation and not with the great leaders who sacrificed their lives for today's independence. The religious leaders wont give a second thought while fighting against the 'injustice' against Osama or lebanon. Never have they fought against Pakistan's terrorism, so how could you expec them to sing in praise of Mother India. Let the communal forces sing it and the secular forces oppose the glory of this great patriotic song. Not to forget this is the song which held the entire nation in one thread during our fight for independence.

it should not be related to religion , it is for country
by Chitra Awasthi on Aug 24, 2006 03:47 PM  Permalink

Vande Matram is not for any religion , it is for country. How any citizen of India can deny from singing it. Those doing so are surely anti nationalist.

Arjun Singh, who despite of so much reaction against reservation, is determined to have it ... so easily took back his words on vande matram... WHAT A PITY !!!!!!!!

VANDE MATARAM

SIR,

This song is a part of our freedom and our pride. If any one feels ashamed to learn it or sing it, they have no right to call themselves INDIANS.

Vande Mataram -- A Historical Perspective
by zameer on Aug 24, 2006 03:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Vande Mataram has been a disputed hymn through out the freedom movement until now.As this song is basically polytheistic and atheistic.Even Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru didnt consider it as a national song and Subhash Chandra Bose as well opposed it even though he was a Bengali. The Indian National Congress had deleted some of its parts declaring them to be disputable and communal. All India Students Union too didnt consider it suitable for recitation during students congregations declaring that it incited communal hatred.(Reference:Statesman,December 12,1938)

Mr. Ram Manohar Lohia, another great socialist leader, too had come down very heavily on Anand Math (the novel which contained Vande Mataram) stating that the novel was a blot on our national struggle as it contained a declaration which welcomed the arrival of the English who would protect the life and property of the Indians from the Muslim rulers. In this way the novel is a source of humiliation to our national struggle.(Reference:Jarida Ansari, August 18, 1938)

This present issue will give political millage to politicians promoting hatred among indians and diverting attention of nation from real issues.

vande mataram means i worship the mother. only a true patriot can see the country as a mother. are people opposed to singing this saying that "this is not my mother land". are they living in india on a contract basis. the problem is islam is a religion that does not have roots over here. the parsis, the sikhs, the budhists, the jews, even the christians do not have this problem. why is shahi imam cynical? when abdul kalam can say vande mataram, why can't you? asfqullah, maulana abul kalam, abdul hamid, irfan pathan, zaheer khan, are they not bonafide muslims. the very song vande mataram was made popular by a r rehman a devout muslim. the shahi imam has started playing his dangerous game of divide and rule

What Vande Mataram Means to Me

A lot.

For one simple reason that constitutionally it is our naional song. BUt there are several others.

We all love and respect our mothers (I am sure every religion permits that) and in this song swear to have the same spirit for our motherland who provides us all that we need. Why should there be a problem?

It was written by Bankim (in Anand math) where it was sung by the local people while fighting the British. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and others fought in the same spirit for freedom. Why should there be a problem about singing it? Music is not prohibted in any religion. Our greatest musicians have been Muslims (Ustads Akbar Ali Khan, Bismillah Khan, Naushad, Khayyam,Talat, Rafi, Amzad ...) as well as those from other religions.

But let me admit that I am not aware why Quaran- e- shareef would prohibit that? I did buy a translation of this book sacred to billions but am yet to read it.

But, probably, instead of forcing this beautiful thing down the misunderstanding and suspecting people's throats, a better way may be to explain the meaning, spirit and significance of the song to any Indian patriot. Let dissenters also explain.
