Only the poor is killed
by dsen on Aug 21, 2006 07:07 PM  Permalink

The stark reality of life is that only the poor is killed in every riot or social unrest, as s/he is weak. I haven't come across any rich muslim,or any rich hindu being killed in the past 25 years. Hating a poor is easy, as he is almost defenceless and lack the resource to retaliate. So there is only one identity, the socio-economic status, the rest are all colourful wrapings of little practical value. Unfortunately, this discrimination will continue in future as well and so the debate, as the number of poor will always outnumber the rich, especially in developing countries.

Amartya Sen on Identity and Violence
by Nagaraja on Aug 21, 2006 07:04 PM  Permalink

Kadar Mia's factual story is interesting. His only last identity being his way to graveyard. But why is it that we keep finding a one sided story always? How many have refered to the plight of two and half million kashmiri pandits displaced from the valley? Why should we selectively forget Godhra and remember only Gujarat riots???????......

I have many identities
by Nitin Gandhi on Aug 20, 2006 07:26 PM  Permalink

Hope less peace of interview -a right man will have only one identity a professional and a personal. Only the typical hypocrite Indian will like to out his nose in all the aspects of life.

sen and his dislike for the hindus
by jagdish on Aug 19, 2006 07:54 PM  Permalink

I have observed that like many others Mr.Sen too has selective amnesia or that he has no guts to call a spade a spade. I am sure Dhaka saw more hindu blood then it did of Kadar Mias'. But still like India considered to be a soft target,Hindus are object of experiment,to whom any so called intellect could ridicule and get away without any troubel.

If i am not wrong he is a noble price winner for his work on Economics and it would be a service to us hindus if the press would confine interviewing the likesof Mr.Sen to his area of work.

This country whether you like it or not has a larger Hindu populus and please treat them with due respect.
Please stop this suedo-secularisum here!!!
