Bojinka II ,Pakistan and Musharaf
by S.Ramaswamy on Aug 12, 2006 01:04 PM  Permalink

Mr Raman needs to be complimented for the lucid analysis. His stand that the terrorist activities will not stop as long as Musharaf continues is correct. It is in his interest to sustain the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan while pretending to act against the terrorists on his soil. The western powers are playing with fire that will consume them if they dont act fast and firm

Need for destroying Terror at its Centre
by N.M. Ojha on Aug 12, 2006 12:11 PM  Permalink

Tackling terror modules at the operational level is like treating the symptoms and not the disease. This action at retail level is bound to fail in some instances sooner or later.
The way out is to destroy the sources of terror.

Raman's Irrational Logic
by Nick on Aug 12, 2006 12:08 PM  Permalink

Raman seems to be a good writer. Until you try to follow his logic which is very warped. Every Indian leader has struggled against extremists in India over the past 30 years at the very least. Extremism and terrorism took the lives of both Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. India has struggled against every movement - Naxalite, Sikh, Assamese, Mizo and others. Extremism simply does not get eliminated overnight through an Executive Order or a TV speech. To assume that Musharraf holds some sort of magic key to eliminate extremism suggests that the writer is cut off from reality.

Many Indian writers - indeed many Indians - seem to somehow become completely irrational when it comes to thinking, analysing and writing about Pakistan.

The current wave of extremism in Pakistan - like the extremism in India - does have its reasons and origins. We are witnessing the fallout of the brutal Soviet War in Afghanistan and the terrible forces unleashed by the West in how they administered the resistance by the Mujahideen. This extremism has also been fueled by the senseless Kashmir conflict. No one is condoing the extremism - but it is silly to think that just one person can end it with the turn of a key!

Who's the next Pakistan?
by Naveen Aysola on Aug 12, 2006 11:51 AM  Permalink

Enough. We heard and know enough that Pakistan is the epicentre of terrorism. They were called "freedom fighers" when fighting the Russian army. They are called "freedom fighters" when fighting the Indian army now. Now slowly but surely, they will also be called terrorists by the International community.
There is only one solution for these guys. Give them Kashmir (not Jammu & Kashmir) and Israel. Then they will want Lucknow, Hyderabad (in India) and all muslim dominated areas.
There is no end to their want and belief.
This will go on. Terror strikes, countries like India fighting back and we living in "fear." I don't believe in living in fear. I believe that if encountered by any terrorist, I can face him man to man.
What needs to be seen is which is one country which will be the future Pakistan. Many muslim countries in Africa are facing wars. What will happen once the wars end? Most youngsters will be unemployed. They will be the future terrorists but working for money and the so called ideals.
So you'll have logistic and political support from muslims in the west and the labour from Africa.
I'm not targetting the entire muslim community, only a section of it.

The terrorists have no regard for country they live. They only belong to their crack ideology.

Pakistan an epicentre for terrorism
by Capt.R.SUBRAMANIAM on Aug 12, 2006 11:08 AM  Permalink

Pakistan has always been a rogue country and the whole world knows about it. It is a pity that the west stills seems to ignore the seriousness of the problem and blame on the so called Al Qaida whose base is still not known.
It is time the world puts pressure on countries like Pakistan to act seriously rather than merely putting people on house arrest or banning terrorist outfits

Pakistan's involvement in UK Terror plot
by Sylvester Isaac on Aug 12, 2006 10:35 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I fully agree with you that "Unless and until they act against Musharraf, they will have no respite from acts of jihadi terrorism originating or inspired from Pakistani territory."

This also brings to the forefront India's contention of whether the Pakistani 'intelligence' units knew of the various plots against India, including of course the recent blasts in Mumbai. And why do the Western powers not take our view seriously when we keep telling them time and again about the terror infrastructure alive and kicking in Pakistan, obviously with the tacit approval of the various Generals reporting to the 'President' of Pakistan?

Any why are the various media including in India not highlighting this issue?

In Sylvester's opinion All the intellegence agencies working against the terror are slleping dogs. I think he shoud wake up from the dream and see the reality.
