Raman seems to be a good writer. Until you try to follow his logic which is very warped. Every Indian leader has struggled against extremists in India over the past 30 years at the very least. Extremism and terrorism took the lives of both Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. India has struggled against every movement - Naxalite, Sikh, Assamese, Mizo and others. Extremism simply does not get eliminated overnight through an Executive Order or a TV speech. To assume that Musharraf holds some sort of magic key to eliminate extremism suggests that the writer is cut off from reality.
Many Indian writers - indeed many Indians - seem to somehow become completely irrational when it comes to thinking, analysing and writing about Pakistan.
The current wave of extremism in Pakistan - like the extremism in India - does have its reasons and origins. We are witnessing the fallout of the brutal Soviet War in Afghanistan and the terrible forces unleashed by the West in how they administered the resistance by the Mujahideen. This extremism has also been fueled by the senseless Kashmir conflict. No one is condoing the extremism - but it is silly to think that just one person can end it with the turn of a key!
