This is the cost of VOTE-bank
by UTTAMKUMAR SAMANTA on Aug 09, 2006 12:11 AM  Permalink

This 165 billions or 16500 crores of rupees is the "cost of VOTE bank", cost to push the present movable and advanced generation to the middle age, not the cost of real fulfilment of the advancement of the nation or real development of really needy families and generate the cream of the soceity.

i strongly feel govt. is not taking any measures to eradicate poverty.this rs.165 billion or so can be spent on it usefully which is very viable one than for the reservation stuff.the govt. must have a role model like china and work like them when it comes to improvisation of country.

Rs.165 billion???
by Ritesh Srinivasan on Aug 08, 2006 08:40 PM  Permalink

This is ridiculous!!
The lengths our politicians will go to show their affection for a bunch of people who care less about education. Why don't they leave education alone and mess around with something else for their vote bank needs? After all, that is what they are trying to accomplish.
Lets all come up with some funky ideas our politians can toy with to fill up their vote banks and stop playing with insane amounts of tax payers money to fill up their piggy banks.
Its high time politicians got creative too, they have played the reservation card for too long now.

Cost of quotas: Rs 125 bn
by labrea on Aug 08, 2006 08:37 PM  Permalink

In the US there are govt guaranteed 'student loans' issued by banks, for those unable to fund the entire cost of their higher education, in addition to federal and state govt grants. Colleges also offer their own scholarships to deserving students based on their own set of criteria. India urgently need to devise similar programs, especially the inclusion of the private sector, to allow a larger proportion of her population access to higher education, which will increase proseperity and GDP - with an expanded employment comes higher I-T as well as indirect tax collections not to mention the expansion of the economy as whole.

only one good thing
by bikram on Aug 08, 2006 08:00 PM  Permalink

There is only one good thing coming out of this reservations. that is at last the govt is spending some money on education...which was an ignored sector all the while. though how useful it will be is yet to be seen...because of the quality of reserved students.
