In the US there are govt guaranteed 'student loans' issued by banks, for those unable to fund the entire cost of their higher education, in addition to federal and state govt grants. Colleges also offer their own scholarships to deserving students based on their own set of criteria. India urgently need to devise similar programs, especially the inclusion of the private sector, to allow a larger proportion of her population access to higher education, which will increase proseperity and GDP - with an expanded employment comes higher I-T as well as indirect tax collections not to mention the expansion of the economy as whole.
