You might have successfully tried to paint yourself as a sorry figure, and may get some sympathy from many posters, but the fact remains that... Muslims in India are no exception to Muslims in other parts of the worlds. It's always "Muslims Vs Them", be it Jews/Christians/Serbs/Russians/Shias/Armenians and of course Hindus. Time to do some introspection... think "why is it"? "Why is world is gripped in Islam-phobia"? My advice... Please go back to Muslim brothers and try to make them understand that they need to live peacefully with others.
its sad that people havent learnt to live in harmony with people of varied backgrounds. but these people have no qualms i guess to be going to the us or canada or the uk and live there with the foreigners. in our own land, its sad to see people divide each other in the name of religion and life style. God bless you, and i hope you wont lose faith over us all being indians irrespective of colour caste cread religion lang
This shows the true nature of the city of mumbai, the so called metropoliton city, people there are totally divided in sectarian thoughts. Delhi might be loud and money minded but you can easily get a accomodation for any body in almost any area. In the predominantly punjabi locality of Kalka ji i have south indians and even kashmiri students as my neighbors. But i would also say to firdaus that this is not a problem exclusive faced by muslims its is also faced by hindus and by people of other religion in other parts ofteh country.
But I've seen personally that living next to a muslim family, that too for a vegetarian, is very difficult. Arey, we buy a house for comfort, peace etc., and being vegetarian, you love to live in a locality where you won't get the smell of meat cooking. Pls understand it's very difficult and annoying for any veggie to live in a locality, where you get the smell of meat boiling. Here it's not a question of religion, it's question of comfort.
Also, I've personally seen wherever the muslim population is more, you get to see these masks, and you also get to hear their announcements, in public with loud voice, which certainly we donot want to hear.
I feel the change should come from both ends and it should be win-win for all, otherwise the relationships won't last long.
Cant agree more with Syed Firdaus....a friend of mine in Coimbatore narrated me almost the same experience couple of days back...looking out for a rented house, he was told bluntly that there was no place for a muslim...! Self was shocked as well, just when everyone was thinking abt Coimbatore regaining its past glory after the riots and subsequent blasts few years back, comes this....Absolutely no meaning to the unity-in-diversity line that we "Indians" so fervently sell out to others, especially someone like me who lives abroad and takes pride in being an Indian...May be the government should introduce quotas in residential/commerical properties....And the man who started it all, is away on yet another Yatra....
This article is inflamatory in nature. As some Muslims, like the Author, can have reservation in believing Hindus, some of the Hindus might have the same problem. There can be stories from either side of the fence. Latest being the Aligarh issue. Why to de-stabilize the tender peace we are trying see today ? This article is better suited for some site from the other side of the border, but certainly not in Rediff.
