Its really very sad that we are still thinking as hindu, muslim, sikh & not as an indian. its not only in mumbai but in other parts of the country also. We always blame our politician for differnces between different religions. But after reading this story, I think we citizen of india are responsible for this. We have to change our mentality for not getting this happen again and again & be art of our culture.
We indians are the most divided group on the face of earth.
The distrust is deep-rooted.
I have recently moved to bangalore in pursuit of my first job and in one situation, when I had to speak of my rights... I hear statements like where are you from.. learn kannada and then talk.. (I couldnot understand what followed next.. as it was all in kannada). what the hell... and both parties in this conversation happen to be hindus. in fact, during my house search, I was treated much better by a muslim landlord. but ofcourse I am not generalising that all muslims are good and all hindus are bad.
and matrimonial scene brings out the true picture of indian unity in diversity. When I contacted some shetty girl thru rediff, she asked me why I am interested in her when she is not of my caste(She probably inferred my caste from my name). OMFG.
I was wondering if Hindus living in Muslim localities will not be discriminated against even if they for 80% of the population in India. Another difference that we must see between Sikhs and Muslims (if we consider Sikhs as minority) is that Sikhs are part of national mainstream as much as they anyone can be where as for whatever reasons (that are beyond the scope of this message) Muslims are not ready for that including conventional education.
Its the reality as not only religion discriminates but its the omnipresent thing in India which from castism to regionalism intrudes the brain of all. We could see people align themselves toward their identity (of religion or caste or region) even if they are educated elites. This attitude is planted in the heart of Indians and its very diffcult to rid of unless otherwise secure and solitude attitude developes.
