You might have a 100 complaints about muslims and their religion, but such discrimination in the name of religion should never be tolerated. Such discrimination only succeeds in further alienating a community that already feels alienated. In the US they have the concept of "equal housing opportunity", which makes it is illegal for apartment owners to discriminate in the name of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation etc. In the US the emphasis is "assimilation". In India the emphasis is on "tolerance". Maybe we have things to learn from the US here.
A point to note for my muslim readers though. We (hindus) hear about all the extremism going on in the name of islam. In the west, one can do a background check and credit check based on your social security number. It's hard for someone to know your background in India because there is no such concept. People rely on word of mouth and generally tend to trust their own kind. I'm sure muslims have the same prejudices about hindus.
I guess in time we will make our peace with each other. Till then we all need to keep trying.
I do agree with this gentleman that discrimination against anyone is bad. But I do not agree with him, finding fault with hindus. It is not discrimination but fear. You can look at the contemporary incidents in India as well as world. It is natural for every soft individual to fear them. I can cite my experience.. I am from Hyderabad. Recently someone-somewhere on the other side of the planet published a cartoon and mobs destroy both public and private property . How is India or we hyderabadies responsible for those acts?. and it is natural for people to fear because of such behaviours
I totally agree with your opinoion sir, but why dont you forget human mentality.
If one person does anything wrong from family then all family members suffers because of people's orthodox view.It takes a long time for people to give same status to other family members.
Being Indian, we all want to stay together with our multi cultured environment, specially when anything happens in India or even in word by Muslim, It affects all community people.
So it will take a long time for people in India to accept people from some different community whith whom they have problem in past.
I hope we will see that day very soon in our beloved India
I also have suffered with this type of discrimination against muslims which is prevalent in India. In 2001, I was a PG student(gold medalist)and went to join one of the best and famous Institute in "DELHI". The chairman looked at my CV and asked me why I have come there for studies??? Is there no place for me in my "OWN" (so called muslim) institutions??? I was deeply shocked and hurt....So my friend its not that the discrimination is only in mumbai....It is everywhere....Ironically I have only hindus as my best pals ever....but sadly....the hatred and distrust is still in our minds and hearts..... Despite all bad experiences..I still have hope that someday we will overcome our differences in "GREAT INDIA"
I have heard the exact same story from another couple who immigrated to Canada for just the same reason. Even though they were working professionals, they found themselves being racially discriminated against when looking for a house, and that too quite openly.
It reflects not just on a particular religion, but on human nature - to discriminate against against any community that threatens to alter your way of life.
Why is ot that at a micro level, we have good friends in every community, but at a macro level, we assume dynamics that are very different?
