Re:- Why I won't live among Hindus.
by Parikshit on Apr 12, 2006 07:58 PM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Ashraf,

I completely empathise with you and apologize about the experience, but at the same time, I would like to add that probably they were not fanatic about accepting Muslims as their neighbours.
Its their experience with other fanatic muslims and the intolerance of Muslims, that they dislike. The problem being, if One Muslim is tolerant and understanding, there will be others, who will come up and try and force him to be intolerant in the name of Islam. Their Logic is simple, BEING CAUTIOUS IS BETTER THAN BEING SORRY. I dont blame them for that.
I dont know you, but the way your column is written, I feel that you belong to that rare, educated, progressive Muslim, who is believes in LIVE and LET LIVE, theory. But as they say, I CRIMINAL changed the society. Because of somebody else's crime, the good people suffer. I would request you to be tolerant and slowly slowly, people will accept you in the mainstream. The key words are TOLERANCE & UNDERSTANDING.
Your column was good, but it had a flaw, it was intolerant. You could have tried to understand the reason, for what happened by recalling the facts, by analysing their side and your side, it would have helped.

Please stop posting Self condolence messages

Hi Rediff ,
Why you encourage divisive messages and foul cries while allowing your message board filling with Retaliations (one is from me too). Lets not waste our resources (time) in reading and replying.

If you ask for stories of rescuing and helping each other it would have been a better platform for improving the trust among people. I am not aswking to be covering all the issues but assure your self that you are not doing any disservice to the nation by harvesting some riduculous sentiments.

Sundar

All over the world, It is same story
by Rahul on Apr 12, 2006 06:01 PM  Permalink

First of All I must say What is rediff's column standard now its really third class.

I live in Germany now and lived all over the world. Muslim is big problem everywhere. Back in 1947 they asked for separate land from India and they created Pakistan.
Now they are fighting for Kashmir. Hindu allowed them even to live inside the India but what they have done with Hindu. Only spreading threat and terrorist against them.
But this is not the story in India, Even in UK, Russia, US and Germany the best thing with Muslim is they want to settle down here, they will take the nationality also but they will always be against with the Christian and Jews.

Be Indians
by Abhishek Sharma on Apr 12, 2006 05:47 PM  Permalink

I wonder why still, we are so deeply involved in all these subdivisions, religional and communal issues. Before anything else I am Indian and every other person living there is Indian for me.

And I have only one commitment, one religin to make India strong, developed and a beautiful place to celebrate life.

I am sorry if author has been through this experience, but I will like him to open up and see things in wider perspective. If every one starts believeing that we are Indian first and then someone else, we will really, become a true Indian.

Remmember, United we stand, Divided we Fall..!!

DISCRIMATION?
by SHIRASATISH on Apr 12, 2006 05:13 PM  Permalink

A Muslim person is over-reacting to a situation which is unwarranted. He himself admits that this is not constrained to Muslim community. Even HINDU's who are vegetarians do not like to share with HINDU's who are non-vegetarians? What meaning should it send? Does it mean veg HINDUS hate non veg HINDUS? And so non VEG HINDUS hate veg HINDUS and HINDUSTAN as a whole? In HINDUSTAN all of us i.e. veg., non-veg., Hindus, Muslims, Christians are living peacefully for centiries and only mean minded and short sighted persons like Mr Syed fear of ghost which is not there by blowing up tiny issues.

simple fact
by jiten on Apr 12, 2006 05:09 PM  Permalink

Dear friend - It was really sad that you faced such discrimination. Think about your decision trail - you decided to buy a house in hindu locality because of your budget and all...

The expereince majority of hindus are that Muslim don't blend in the society very easily. Also, muslim separate their functions and keep the purposeful disconnect from non-muslims. The discrimination is fulled by this fact. So, blaming hindus alone won't work, I think the whole community together need to put the genuin effort, if at all they wish to unite.

Jiten.
