Life Taking Fire at Meerut Brand Show
by Pankaj Mittal on Apr 12, 2006 10:37 AM  Permalink

It is really unfortunate what has happened at Meerut. This shows shear negligance on the part of securities and arrangements.

The Fair Management should be fired as they were the one, who were knowing but still did not care of such outcome, I myself visited this fair on Sunday.

There was very narrow entry and exit gate, there were no visible Emeregency Exits. Even the carridores were sufficient space for people to move around.

As this was first such fair in Meerut and people was more curious to see it.

I pray to god that it may give peace to departed soul and strenght to their family to bear such a hard moment.

Further at least we must learn a lesson to avoid such things in future.

Meerut fire

No doubt, the death toll is more than 100. The alleged act of the local authorities clearing debris within two hours is indicating the conspiracy.
We feel a judicial probe could not gather anything in these circumstances.
We demand a CBI proble immediately without loss of remaining evidences.

yours sincerely

Money Saved
by Shekhar on Apr 12, 2006 08:10 AM  Permalink

The governmentt officials has definitely saved millions of bucks by buldozering the site within few hours of incident and the government machinary was busy only to giving red carpet to VIPs and lathicharged to relatives of victim. It is one of the other genocide which will be burry in the ashes and there is no one accountable and responsible for the incident. Common man is alien in his own India and politicians only plays gimmicks daily.

But still I pay my condolence to the victim and relatives of this genocide and may the god give peace to the departing souls.

Meerut fire: Inquiry ordered
by labrea on Apr 12, 2006 12:05 AM  Permalink

All codes stipulate the minimum exits required based on occupant loads, usually no less than two, remotely located from each other, as also minimum opening width (doors/entryways etc) for said occupant load, assigned exit corridors/lanes, fire supressant system, fire alarms - both audio and visual and countless other safety features regarding flammability of materials and finishes. From this carnage, one must conclude that every safety code had been violated, and that no one seemed the least concered for the safety of the thousands of patrons, especially the person most responsible for fire safety - the Fire Marshal. Go figure. Bet your bottom dollar, no one goes to jail.

Inferno in Meerat
by Satish Saxena on Apr 11, 2006 11:57 PM  Permalink

In Pandav's time a Laksha Grah was made to burn Pandavas. In present time, pandals were made almost with similar material rather more flameable material.
Such things can only be prevented by punishing those who are responsible for this lapse.

Meerut Fire
by Dinesh kavuru on Apr 11, 2006 11:24 PM  Permalink

These days, several trade fairs are conducted across the country with large crowds turning out, particularly during the weekends. I used to frequent these fairs in Chennai and most of the time, I notice that the stalls are too many, the passage is too narrow and the crowds are huge. Everything is Inflammable and every stall is powered. People who organize these events dont care for disaster plans. We saw a temple fire in tamilnadu and made guidelines only for temples. Then we had fire in school. We then made guidelines for schools. Now the trade fair. We are missing the basics of fire control. This can even happen in cinema halls. We need to address the source, not the symptons.

My condolences for the families of people who perished/injured in this fire.
