be more human
by Madhup Johri on Apr 11, 2006 07:02 PM  Permalink

I belong to Meerut and reside in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad. When I heard the news of the Tragedy, i felt almost a part of it.But the Government and the employees are not awaken by the Tragedy of any magnitude. The Ambulances carrying the injured to Delhi were struck up in Traffic Jams at Hindon Bridge in Ghaziabad with Traffic coming from all the directions. The ambulance sirens were screaming and the relatives crying. The officers there did not feel the necessity to react to the situation and prevent the vehicles from going in the wrong directions. I sincerley wish, hope and pray that the injured reached the hospital just in time.
And for the goverment officials , hope they become more humane. May God provide Peace to all the departed souls of my Brothers and Sisters of Meerut Tragedy.

Lessons Learnt.
by Hari on Apr 11, 2006 12:22 PM  Permalink

Why do Governments come out with compensation packages even as the tragedy is unfolding? The right thing to do will be to make acceptable enquiries into the causes of the incident, determine the causes and the mistakes leading to the incident.A report on the Lessons learnt shoulod be brought out and the national Government should bring out guidelines for safety considerations in the conduct of all such 'fairs' or 'melas' or whatever we call it where large number of people are expected to congregate.
I hope this does not die down with a few Soniajis and Mulayamjis and other jis visiting hospitals and getting photographs taken and few 'compensations' doled out.Let us have some actions taken by which we try and reduce the impacts of such events in future.
Best,

Hari

There must be Strict Law made for the safety in such Exhibitions and Fairs
by rajvarma on Apr 11, 2006 12:14 PM  Permalink

Council for National Safety must bring out Strict Law made for the safety in such Exhibitions and Fairs.

Every where in India, an Exhibition is there, be it an Education Fair / Trade Fair or such, they all follow the similar Restrictive Movement Policy to make all Visitors Move in a Channelled manner the Organisors want. There is NO provision for SAFETY.

In Case of any mishap, what to do??

National Council for safety must have Strict Regulations, with out which any Organisor jsu can not have Gatering of People for Fairs if they are not complying the Guide Lines.

There must be enough Fire detectors / Sensing Equipment / apart from Fire fighting Equipment.
Fire Fighting comes Second after the fire has broken out. First must be Detection / warning and Prevention etc.

Meerut fire
by Dr.meera Mohanti on Apr 11, 2006 12:09 PM  Permalink

Yet another carnage.50 innocent revellers consigned to the fire lords, not through the regular rituals of cremation but unnatural dis

As usual the chief minister and the govt.officials are held responsible for all the lapses. This is easy as it absolves others of his or her responsibility, secondly,to extract maximum financial assistance from the govt.for all those killed or injured

Fair enough . But once the ordeal is handled ,should we not ponder over the need of apportioning the blame where it actually rests.
Should not the organisers of the Mela ,the participants ,[traders putting up the stall ]and the citizens who frquent these Mela's equally responsible for all such tragedy;s.

The officials give permission to hold fares and allow the use of public land to the organisers .Once these formalities are completed it becomes mandatory on the organisers to ensure that basic precautionary measures are carried out to ensure the safely of the visitors as well as the participants .Also ,the public visiting these stalls should be alert enough to understand the frailties considering the frequent fire accidents and terrorist attacks .

Victoria Park Tragedy
by mahima on Apr 11, 2006 11:12 AM  Permalink

Why we have to wait for such tragedies to happen, such places are so much crowded that air circulation within the park gets lower and when such tragedies like short circuit happen then administration gets awaken, why we are being experimented, if proper precautionary measures are taken then such tragedies could be avoided and life of people can be saved.

who is really responsible?
by ritu on Apr 11, 2006 09:06 AM  Permalink

when such events are organized the local police and the respected government bodies are supposed to be working hard shoulder to shoulder but does it really happen we should all be taking lessons from the past and not to repeat them in future then only such hazardous accidents could be stopped.
my appeal to all please help .....think we are human too, and they could be we or our relatives.
