'paraspar' prosperity
by N J Ramesh on Sep 26, 2005 08:33 PM  Permalink

Managing media as it is being claimed of Pakistan is a disease not a cure and need not be confused with a marketing exercise. Marketing begins with the need of the people and sets up organisational capability to deliver the needed products. It is an exercise in delivering the 'apples' and not mere 'apple polishing'.

Success of Indian media lies in making our recalcitrant neighbour, Pakistan see the light of reason, trust India and work together to usher prosperity. Putting extra efforts to deliver media bytes to the western world is of no good as Pakistan to its horror must have found quite counter productive. All we need is an open and welcoming society and Western media has the money to do research and discern truth for themselves.

.. and the role of media
by vickeybird on Sep 26, 2005 03:05 PM  Permalink

What is our media doing about it ...
Spilling oceans of ink over our non performing criket team and its managers.
Or corney details of lives of a dance bar babe who likes to gamble
What is democracy but us people.
Is our media looking for an order from government in triplicate!!

who cares ?
by vishwa on Sep 25, 2005 05:54 PM  Permalink

well who gives a damn about pakistan and their image anyway.everyone knows its a terrorist state which breeds and funds terrorism with camps on the streets of karachi.do you guys think that the international community is so naive that they would not know the ground situation .US and other countries just back pakistan for the moment because its an islam state with a border to afghanistan and also has some relations with other islam countries in the middle east.
none of this is going to matter when pakistan is going to crumble into pieces. Its just a matter of time now.Fundamentalism has never succeeded and never will in the future.
India has to be more worried about China and think about economic development.Pakistan will be a thing of the past soon.

Pakistan did it again
by Ravinder on Sep 24, 2005 06:57 PM  Permalink

Why blame Pakistan? they have done their cause. If we are PR concious and realy think well of our, country we must draw a longer line to to cut short the Pakistan propoganda .We need more Honest, sincere ,porpuseful, planned and well directed insight into the world peace efforts. We have lost more than 100 folds of lives and property to terrorism in various form (leave alone long term and indirect effects) as compared to 9/11, who is botherd about it on international forums. It is my fault, your falt and our fault. We never tried to put the things as they internationally as they are endured by the sufrers down to the generations.

Acting in harmony with who? That place called Pakistan? Read the history of Pakistan (political) and all the talks and the wars that have occured in last 60 years. If you still do not see the light then you need deep psychotherapy.

accurate view, need of the hour today
by Amit Shesh on Sep 23, 2005 10:36 PM  Permalink

The article raises a very valid and accurate point. Indian Government officials are always content on doing the "right thing" and never actually telling the world they did it. News briefings, and not policies and documents, create a nation's impression and the Indian Government has failed to do that internationally. The only reason a rogue state like Pakistan can support terrorism for decades, proliferate nuclear technology and yet be in the good books of the West so much that thy can actually persuade or blackmail the superpowers into listening to them! India cannot just ignore the fact that though India is not involved in every Pakistani HR victory, it creates a big loss for India. The Government should make a concerted and coordinated effort to put its views and opinions in the world, and capture every opportunity to make itself heard.

You're right on the point
by Puzzled Desi on Sep 23, 2005 08:20 PM  Permalink

I am thankful for the nice article and for the umpteenth time, I will again stand on my head and scream it is all in management, idiots. Our people are proven useless in diplomacy. I saw them spending time shopping and eating good food in New York, as if they were in vacation. The entourage of PM's office kept loudly chatting amongst themselves in Hindi. Where is our professionalism? They were mostly Delhi based bureaucrats and journalists and looked like tourists: "namaste ji...new york trip kaisa raha"-types. Foreign media were not courted; every single event organized was not even mismanaged: it was not managed at all! Can any one explain why I see amateurish people running around and not doing the sole job they are hired to do! In the dinner, PM was late and sleepy. Ambassador Sen was not prepared even with three lines of well scripted words to introduce PM. He was visibly searching for words! The huge cost of renting Hilton grand ball room was wasted without any diplomatic gains. Also the delhi babus were knocking the microphone in frerquent intervals with their knuckles as if they were expected to malfunction every three minute! Dr, Singh, can we privatize our govt please!

Pak did it again
by Arun Kumar on Sep 23, 2005 06:54 PM  Permalink

Diplomacy is not conducted by media bytes. Upstarts like Mr Ethiraj must understand. Pak may be making loud media noises but it still isnt heard where it matters. In the cold real world of international diplomacy national interests and maturity matter.

response to you article
by Prem Singh on Sep 23, 2005 03:25 PM  Permalink

Pak has done it again, is an well observerd peice and i hope the people concerned has read it. India surely lacks the PR sklls neccessary to potray indian image in the international platform. Either we are late to response or there is no response, an clear cut outcome of poor media managment and planning. Pak on the opposie has manage to do the evil and has portred it as an angel, and all good deeds of india go to trash as it is not projected and explained, and using this dormant attitude of india Pak strike it on the international forums and cahnge the entire scenario. Wake up India camp it is to late NOW!.
