Muslims and Sania's dress
by C.John Mathai on Sep 16, 2005 11:14 AM  Permalink

Sania Mirza is the pride of the country and any comment on her dress in the Tennis Cort is un warranted. She wear decent dress and I appreciate and admire this girl. My Muslim friends must stop immediately any further comment on this matter which will affect the morale of this wonderful tallent. All Muslims who feel bad about the dress must first of all realise that they are Indians and they have no right to raise a non-issue in to a controversy.

Sania dress code
by Sathish Reddy on Sep 16, 2005 11:14 AM  Permalink

I would support the mullas, maulvis and other torch bearers of Islam in India if I was sure that there was no duplicity in thier lives. The hipocracy that they live with is akin to what our Policians exhibit through and through.Islam is a way of life and its for the followers to assume its importance. Are all the powerful muslims in India,be it politicians, film stars, businessmen, the rich and famous living pure and Islamic lives. Are these very mullas living that way.Where is the proof that they are.

I can sum up this farce in one line-

A line that has frusterated me in my job as a father-

DONT DO AS I DO,DO AS I TELL YOU TO DO.

What about Zeenath Aman????????
by subbu on Sep 16, 2005 11:08 AM  Permalink

is it ok for the muslims to watch yesteryear muslim sex bomb ZEENATH AMAN stripping to bare minimum in every alternate movie??

why make a fuss about the issue now? when , all that she wants is just play tennis and make herself and her country proud... she is not stripping intentionally

this does nothing but deviate her focus

she is not in arab country she is an indian... she has the right to choose her dress... the way she likes.

Hi
EveryMuslim in india, is proud what sania is acheiving for india. But she is also representive to muslim women in media, and world. So expecting her to follow some dress code should be understandable , people requesting to wear proper dress , not Burkha or hijab which iranian women wear during their games. Its their culture and please dont comment on it , saying that womens are ill treated. In Islam women is given all liberty to do whatever she wants , only peoples like some maulvius who seek some benefits , try to change the laws as per their need.
Nobody said she should not play tennis , and even one of the maulvi raised a request , to change the dress code for tennis game , so that muslim women can also participate in the game without any issues. One more point i wanted stress is till now , Tennis is game of western world(mean mostly played by western countries )
In Tamilnadu all the engg colleges banned jeans and skirts , and asked all the college students to wear proper dress. Does it mean that maulvi and college principal are wrong and they follow islamic rules. On contrary, most of the students , and parents welcomed this decision.

Ya. sounds good. Why do we all not request OIC to create a new tennis game with an altogether new set of rules for her to play. I think thats what you are hinting. Some people never change

If someone is really talented, no dress-code would stop her playing
tennis. Media should focus more on useful issues than some crazy nut's
blabbering!

Dear friends Anand & others,
What do you know about Islam? So Im pretty sure ur knowledge is very low and hence u r not aware of the Islamic Principles.Ur one of the victims of medias wrong propagation of ISLAM.
Muslim is one who submits to Allah & strives to obey Allah's commandments in all aspects of life.So we cant take some & leave that the rest.
Quran is the revelation from Allah and hence we are bound to obey the commandments mentioned in the Holy Quran from Allah.
Try to learn about Islam & then make ur comments & u will not go wrong.
As far as ur comment that muslim women wearing veil is a symbol of oppression again u have a wrong opnion in ur head.Syed

Hi Anand ,
Please read my message properly , I said some maulvis create rules of their own interest, and get benefited from that . As you asked question Saudi girls , I just wanted to ask you , did you travelled to saudi before and met any girl there. Dont go with the media reports. In media if you are labelled as a terrorist means are you going to be one ,eventhough you havent touched a gun in your life time.
First be knowledgeable on what you are commenting on . Islam is the religion where womens are given all the liberties to do bussiness, and do whatever she wants on her growth path by following the guide lines of islam. Islam is the only religion which highly talks about widow marriages, marrying divorced women , and has rules against dowery , which is not there in any of the religion.
By wearing burkha or hijab dont say that people are ill treated. Is it like by wearing saree or jeans womens are equally treated. Burkha is the culture of islam , and it protects women from all the bad things. Burkha doesn't stop a women from getting educated, or do whatever she wants.
So please be clear when you make comments.

Thank you GOD for Fareeth. There are some people who can think like a human beings & stright. Today women want to expose themselves in the name of freedom & culture. Whatever we brag about today's culture & freedom, people who lived in olden day's conservative culture lived a better lives that what we live today. Everybody wants to undress in the name of culture. We are reaping the results in the form of rapes & assault which women face these days. I respect women & GOD Bless them to think straight according to what scriptures teach us. In Sania's case, I think she is working hard to play the game well. Let us leave it and let her consider according to her conscience and according to her religion if she can be comfortable in any other clothing.

Sania and her dress code
by vimalasunder on Sep 16, 2005 11:04 AM  Permalink

I think too much is being made of this trivia and the elaborate article does nothing to lessen the impact. Instead of just appreciating the superb game of the individual and letting other things die a natural death, why whip up opinions (see i am already reacting to it and so many like me will !!) A woman is a woman is a woman and Sania is no different from the other women playing out there for the men who are watching the game. And let us not demean Men, for they are primarily there because of the love for the Game (AND NOT THE WOMAN!!) and because she is an INDIAN(NOT THE LEAST BECAUSE SHE IS A MUSLIM!!)
Sania's discomfiture is a natural part of her background and she has in fact overcome what ever there is of it. In public she is merely being politically (or religiously!!) correct. Sania brings a great game and the rest is incidental ( like how 'little people' have earlier commented on a Martina or Steffi graf!). All celebreties have to contend with these irritants. The sooner it is forgotten the better for them!

Sani Mirza : Dress code.
by Dr Durgaprasad Agrawal on Sep 16, 2005 11:03 AM  Permalink

Although Mr Shenoy has tried to balance both the sides, I strongly feel that religion should restrict itself to religious matters, and should not invade one's personal(or professional)lives. Almost every second religion professes to be 'a way of life', but does this means that religion never wishes to give its followers any freedom at all? We allknow, some religions are more primitive then others, but thus they are doing great harm to their followers. This should be understood by the religious preachers as well as their followers.
