Idiotic Piece
by Sunny on Sep 15, 2005 11:35 AM  Permalink

What an idiotic piece !!! What is the similarity between the IC 814 hijacking and Sarabjit case ? So what solution does the author propose ? Better for Sarabjit to be hanged ? Ridiculous, childish and absurd article.

Sarabjit - RAW deal ??
by Arun Chaturvedi on Sep 15, 2005 11:34 AM  Permalink

We are all too familiar with the passage If you are caught, the agency and your government will disown your existence and these words are not a figment of fiction. This letter may sound harsh to readers, but in the reality world of espionage, this is the bottom-line and every undercover agent working behind enemy lines with an adopted identity, is very familiar with them. This could explain the persona confusion about Sarabjit Singh, the innocent cross-border straggler, and Manjit Singh, the planted RAW agent on a mission that misfired. This could likely explain why a Manjit Singh stood on trial as possibly there never existed any identity on the man to prove he is Sarabjit Singh. Has any disclaimer statement come forth from RAW? It wont- because even denial would be an indirect confirmation of its covert operations across the border and extremely dangerous in exposing other operatives. One can sympathize with the family who would never have been aware if at all Sarabjit was inducted by RAW, but the excess T.V media hype is raising misplaced hopes in this sensitive diplomatic row. We pray that Sarabjit alias Manjit does not walk the last mile and his sentence gets commuted to life, but let us not fool ourselves in believing that he will merely walk across the gates at Wagah.

Test Case to Find Pak Intentions.
by James Kallery on Sep 15, 2005 11:16 AM  Permalink

Though release of a single individual should not be made central to carrying on of the peace process between India and Pakistan, it can be used as a test case to ascertain the genuineness of Pak intentions. We have always been making peace overtures to Pakistan, only to be stabbed in the back (remember Kargil) time and time again. If Pak is serious about peace this time, it should not let the opportunity to show it's commitment to the peace process pass. After all one individual cannot be lager than the commitment to peace. Cheap (Sarabjit chip) bargaining shows that it wants to eke out more than its fair share, using any means possible. Can we have genuine peace with such people harboring such intentions?

Fully agree
by Rajeev Venkat on Sep 15, 2005 11:08 AM  Permalink

while my sympathies are with the family of Sarabjeet & all the other people officially/unofficially lodged in Pakistani jails, i fully agree with the author.

we in india are falling prey to the ill-thought, ill-advised media. the media needs eye balls & goes to any extent for this.

just because sarabjeet is an india does it mean he is innocent? i am not doubting his innocence but how can a whole frenzy be whipped up for his release. but someone else's opinion dawood may also be innocent. the people should understand that there is always more than what necessarily meets the eye.

and the media should also behave responsibly in national interest & stop just looking at their TRPs & pockets...

Sarabjit or national interest?
by B B MISHRA on Sep 15, 2005 10:48 AM  Permalink

From the time of independence, almost all the steps of faithbuilding with Pakistan have been initiated by India. What Pakistan has does? They have waged three wars (1947,1965,1971)with india. They have never followed India for faith building.India should note it clearly that all the moves of Pakistan are aimed to destablise India whether it is goodwill gesture or sending terrorists in Kashmire. One side Pakistan signes an aggrement with India the next day he violets it.Pakistan knows that India in itself is devided in politics therefore India will never be hard against them whether he violates an aggrement, send terrorists or hangs innocent Sarbjit.

You're going to be unpopular
by Ravi on Sep 15, 2005 09:58 AM  Permalink

I completely agree with the opinion expressed by the author. However, we have such short memories, which these 'investigative' & 'bleeding heart' journalists exploit to fill up their channel content with idiotic jingoism.

It is so sad that we have not yet been able to draft a policy on handling hostage situation. I suppose this will be taken up for discussion only when some incident completely clouds and obfuscates logical process.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Midguided and Plain Wrong
by MohanDas on Sep 15, 2005 08:50 AM  Permalink

Mr. Wilson makes the case for why citizens of India should not care about their country or government. Are our people's lives expendable chips to be traded in for this so-called peace process? No locus standi - what nonsense!! An Indian citizen is taken prisoner and sentenced to death with every suggestion that he was not given due process of law - what better locus standi can one ask? This is precisely the shameful logic that says we should not push the case when dead Indian POWs are returned with horrible evidence of torture and maiming. The same rationale that asks that we allow our citizens to be raped, misued like slaves, and unfairly executed in some Arab states in exchange for our oil "privileges". This road leads in only one direction - the weakening of our sinews, the bleeding of our soul, and the sapping of our national spirit.
