History Will Repeat Itself ??
by VijayRaj Singh on Oct 31, 2006 09:53 PM  Permalink

Its horrific to hear such stories.I regret what had happened.Mrs.Indira Gandhi was one of the best prime minister,India ever had.She was a gutsy woman who wanted to control terrorism and seperatist movements at any cost, unlike our present day leaders who just talk about preventing terrorism but their efforts are way behind.Be it Manmohan singh, atal behari vajpayee etc, they can't even come close to what Mrs.Indira Gandhi was.I salute the Iron lady for her guts and zeal. But whatever happened later on was a great tragedy for India.Innocents people getting killed just for being sikhs was very outrageous.I condemn the acts of those hooligans and also condemn the act committed by those gunmen, who put so many innocent lives at risk just to fulfill their terror acts. But did we learn anything from our past/history ? Did we ever try analyze the things in a different prespective ? No, we didn't ! If it were sikhs 21 years ago, it is Innocents muslims/christians, who are killed today. So when we can't justify what had happened then, how can we justify what is going on now ? Wake up, you Indians and stand up against those terrorists, who are within ourselves, before its late.History repeats itself.

What is real problem?
by Harjinder on Nov 04, 2005 06:45 PM  Permalink

Real problem in India is - always innocents are punished but person who committed crime is always set free.In 2002 Gujrat riots, those burned train are still not nabbed but instead thousands of innocents were killed to take revenge.
All these politicians like Titler, narendra modi, togadia,Sajjan kumar,Indira gandhi,Rajeev gandhi, bhindrawale donot have any religion. These people had always instigated mobs to kill innocent people for their political interests.

If u find cause of punjab problem- it was Indira Gandhi who patronized Bhindrewale to counter Akalis and Janta Party govt in 1977.
I agree terrorists should not be allowed to hide in gurudwara/temple but there are ways to flush out them, not to damage whole gurudwara building or kill innocent children/women.
I think it will be better if we indians-educated,social,secular- can punish these politicians like Narendra Modi,Togadia,Titler,Sajjan Kumar in courts irrespective of their religions.
Instead of blaming who is responsible-hindu,sikh or muslim, let us hope all guilty of 1984 & 2002 riots are punished to stop these massacres in future.
Mr kapil, imagine what could have happen to u if u were travelling in badodra train?

re: 21 years ago

My head drops down in shame. What ever was done was one single person thinking. I am sure if the assassin would have thought about the shamefull events that followed Mrs Gandhi would have lived.
Being a Hindu I want to pay my respect and apology to those who were effected. This is one thing that makes me feel ashamed of being Hindu.

That horror 21 years ago
by ramesh on Nov 03, 2005 11:30 PM  Permalink

The problem with India and why these things seem to reoccur, criminals do not get the punishment deserved as long as they are well connected.

Why has the author left out the instigators?
by Anamika K on Nov 03, 2005 09:34 PM  Permalink

Why has the author left out any mention of the leaders who incited the violent attackS?
Why is it that the Congress is hardly mentioned in the media whenever they talk about communal violence? Congress leaders were definitely responsible for intensifying the 1984 attacks.

Also, readers' comments here about the 1984 riots and the Godhra riots, which definitely were heinous, make no mention of the genocide as well as ethnic cleansing of the Kashmiri Hindus. The national media adopts the same stance as a rule.

You cannot talk of the former two and ignore the Kashmiri Pandits. All three need to be mentioned in the same breath ! It is time we gave the Kashmiri Pandits their due.

why the hell to remind the society what had happend and hang our heads in shame
by naveen on Nov 03, 2005 05:48 PM  Permalink

look our seculiar media never mention the attrocities of hindus on sikhs it knows and patrons only one minority community that is muslims who they say are the oppressed people in independent india. what a shame, people who fought for india's independence with valour and sacrificied their lives for india's integrity had been massacred in scuh a barbaric manner in the guise of revenge its shame. there are two classes of people who supported the massacre and who are against the massacre. RSS(secular medias favourite enemy) had helped many sikhs they have sheltered people from the attorcities this shows all hindus had same feelings. what ever happend is utter shame and a blot on indian democracy which boasts of sarv dharma sambhavana

Shame on those Indians
by Annu on Nov 03, 2005 03:40 PM  Permalink

Just by reading this article itself my body shivered for a second, are these so called people who had killed those innocent sikhs humans at all. i dont think so. well the person who had committed the crime should definitely be punished, let that be a sikh, a hindu , a muslim or a christian, no matter what religion he belongs to, he should be punished for the crime he has committed, but why innocent people. no person has got the right to kill another person on this earth. the persons who have died are Indians and the persons who have killed them are also Indians. What a great country Indian is who has given birth to such leeches who are not worth to be born in a sacred country like ours.

Even after 21 years have gone by, but no justice had been done by the government to the people who have lost their loved once. some must have lost their grand fathers, fathers, brothers, sons, etc. a single person's death itself kills the whole family mentally for years together, when more than one person of a family dies (killed) how much depression the family must be going through. Of course no government can bring alive those been killed, but can surely punish those who have killed them.

My thought on the horror 21 years ago
by Sirish on Nov 02, 2005 07:46 PM  Permalink

Is this the same country in which i was born?...Is this the same country which teaches me about all the worldly morals and stuff like "unity in diversity"?
Is this the country which stands as a 3rd world secular country?

i belong to a major religion in India. I am ashamed of being an Indian. I just know the outline of what happenned in my country relating to this news. With this article, i now know the whole picture. I am NOT proud to be an Indian!!!!!!

What a shame for a leader who compares the killing of innocent people to "round shaking"????

What a shame to all those people to went into rage during all the events that shaped into mass killings????

SHAME SHAME Indian History!!!!

Leaders are calling us youth to give our best knowledge and potential in the best interests of India. We never thought our own back yard was so UGLY.

When riots happenned in hyd, i cursed for the unluckiness that this has been local to hyd only. Are yaar!!...its the same picture every where!!!!!!

I can only cry upon the past!!!! and hold my emotions in any such situations in future!!!!! but i will not forgive my country for what itself it has been till now!!!!!

White Man's Stooge
by sanjaychoudhry on Nov 02, 2005 04:39 PM  Permalink

It is a disgrace that some people like this person are hellbent on scratching old wounds. There seem to be a deliberate strategy not to allow people to forget and move on with their lives. It is also disgusting that whatever this lady writes is printed in foriegn newspapers as proof of how uncivilized Indians are. Such people should be thrown out of this country. Why doesn't she write similarly about genocide of Kashmiri pandits and get the articles printed abroad? These people are stooges of white men who tell the world that White man's burden is still needed.

The horror continued for another 8 yrs
by Rahul on Nov 02, 2005 03:56 PM  Permalink

While I empathize with what happened with the Sikh community on those 3 days, but some of them really invited the wrath of rioting congressy goons. I was around 12 years old at that time and we have 3 Sikh neighbors in Delhi & as soon as they heard the news of Mrs Gandhi's death, they were happy and begin distributing sweets. As a kid I did not know what politics was going on but now I think about it, it was really different atmosphere that time. And they were our neighbors, and when goons came for them, I remember all the hindu neighbors had an action committee which stood guard for them day and night. Even i had a small wooden stick. Later on we used to read almost every day that Sikh militants killed hindus in punjab, some were laborers from out of state, some were residents. And that continued for almost 8 years after 1984. But no one remembers them now...
