AID to Pakistan
by T S MANOJ on Oct 17, 2005 12:02 PM  Permalink

Mr. Mir cannot make any hue and cry about India not helping Pakistan during crisis.India has send enough supplies and aid to your country and you are not in a position to acknoledge this fact and meanwhile your govt. pushed in more infiltraters to our teritory in the hour of crisis.

Incorrect Facts
by Sim on Oct 17, 2005 12:51 AM  Permalink

It's sad to read that intellectuals in Pakistan Like the author are also trying to defend the false pride of refusing the genuine effort of help and aid from India. Indian troops falsely claiming of helping across the LOC and actions like that was the reason why Pak refused aid - what can be more flimsy than that. To set the facts straight - Indias offer of helicopters was refused. Same for joint rescue operations along the quake-ravaged frontier. And while Indian blankets, tents and medicine has been accepted, no doctors or NGOs appear to be welcome on the other side.
The larger politics and the maintainence of anti India image seems to be more important than the lives of a couple of thousand people that could possibly have been saved had the aid offer been accepted - leave alone the bearing it would have had on the Indo-Pak relations which now more seems like an international propaganda to hide the rality than any thing else.
I wish all the luck to the people affected and may they recover soon from the enormous tragedy - but at least for the intellectuals like Mr. Mir, I would suggest it's time to get over the farce and acknowledge the reality.

reply to Mr Mir on lessons of Oct 8
by ROHIT on Oct 17, 2005 12:09 AM  Permalink

I enjoy reading Mr. Mir's honest comments and would like to reply on the percieved prickly issue of India providing help and publicizing it .
First of all ,why is it a sensitive issue at all for the Pakistanis ? Why isn't Musharraf a man enough to honestly admit and acknowledge the gesture ? Does such devastation merit ditherting at this point ? Does accepting it two days later make it politically better ?
Scoring a few brownie points over an issue is part of life. I was reading on CNN today that the US airforce provided equipment to unload suplies from an Iranian aircraft. Did the Iranians make a mockery of themselves by denying it in their media ? They had better things to do I suppose.
Why the heavens are pakistanis so caught up in having parity or playing catch up from every issue that impacts India and pssibly them ? Look at the nuclear deal. They have been crying to have one too now.
I am also amused at references in the Indian media of a "historic opprtunity missed" . How the heavens can you turn around a corner when one party has not matured over the years to decently acknowledge even small offer. Kudos to the Indian army in doing a splendid job.

Help from India
by Anshuman Jain on Oct 16, 2005 10:22 PM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Hamid Mir,
You are mistaken that Indian Government didnt offer help and they were out there to score brownie points. Even before this news of Indian soldiers helping Pakistan army of repairing bunker etc came out, Musharraf had declined help citing sensitive areas as region of operations. India has already sent 3 consignment of help and Musharraf later recognised that. I think you should have been more careful in making such claims.
