Act on your conscience
by Raj Narayanan on Oct 03, 2005 04:26 PM  Permalink

Morality in toto had been gradually degrading as times pass. Nothing surprising is happening now as 'change' is imminent. Westernisation in thought and deed had been glorified since long time. Nothing new. People who object to realize their strength in their own culture of their own mother-land will realize at some point in their life time, their fallacy. God Bless All.

I find this interesting. I live in the US where people can kiss in public and it's no big deal. Heck, In NY, it is legal for women to go topless. Some posters here seem to be suggesting that allowing kissing will lead to even worse behavior such as having sex in the park or something along those lines. I will tell you that people kiss in public here quite often but I have never seen people having sex in a park or any other public place. Nor have I seen a topless woman in NY city and I have been there many times. If I had seen these things, would it have detracted from my life in any way? Of course not. Some people just need to spend more time worrying about what they are doing and less time worrying about what others are doing. Yes, there should be some rules but this kind of policing of morals is just not right. I certainly don't want other people enforcing their moral beliefs on me.

Moral of the topic
by Chandrasekar on Oct 03, 2005 04:24 PM  Permalink

So our honorable author claims the moral as follows

1. You can flirt with anyone and everyone. It'll take you places. That too at the age which is apt for studying, please flirt, that would give you the best career.

2. Have sex with whomever you want. But have safe sex. That would make you culturally fit in the new century.

3. Please go to parks, do all the dirtiest things in the park. That's the order of the day.

Chennaites, please follow these and we'll all become culturally elevated...

Kissing in Chennai
by xlnt on Oct 03, 2005 04:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Shoba Warrier should be banished to Kerala for insulting our culture. What does an outsider and that too a girl, know about our great culture.

It is pertinent to note that this big brother is not living in Chennai alone. He is the one who violently opposes exchange of greetings and roses in Mumbai on Valentine's day. He bans dance bars, suggests what to wear while playing tennis and so on.

How dare you kiss in Chennai?
by K Rayan on Oct 03, 2005 04:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am surprised at the sarcasm in this article; What is wrong in ensuring that public decency(scenario 1) is maintained, the dance clubs do not become a place for brothel (scenario 2), college is not a place for fashion show (scenario 3) & some stupid actress does not teach her Ideology(pre-marital intimate relationship) to the public (scenario 4)?

This is not a western culture and we do not want those bad influences affect us... Agreed, there are so many things going on behind the curtains, everywhere... but lets not make it a public habit.

It was stupid of the actress to say things like that, especially in place like TN, where people worship the film personalities. If she was having fun before marriage, it was her choice (or no-choice); but let her not justify it. Schools and colleges are for education and not for fashion parade...

We want to forward thinking, but not at the expense of losing the values. It is so sad to see even (usually) good writers sometimes take the wrong side, in the pretext of liberty and freedom for all...

Shame on you...

Dude wake up. Influenced by bad western culture and all that. Care to prepare a balance sheet of what the Western culture has achieved and what your stiff Chennai culture has? And if you so abhor the Western culture then why in the name of God do you and your brethen come to the US by the plane load? Can't resist the Western money....can you? Listen, we all know what Chennai is like. Don't get upset. And by the way, I am an Indian too.

non sense
by sreekanth reddy k on Oct 03, 2005 04:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Simply disgusting and exaggerated the facts.

So what if the IT companies exist in chennai? Does that means people should be allowed to kiss in the public places or go mad in the clubs and discotheques?

I am not preaching the culture or something but everything should be in limits.

Please don't create scene by comparing Chennai with the Park incident.
by Shankar on Oct 03, 2005 04:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Chennai is a peaceful and beautiful city. I had been there many times. Ofcourse in chennai some restrictions are there when compared to other cities like Mumbai or Delhi. These restrictions enable the city to lead a cutured and peaceful life.

Taking action against a hotel for misusing the rights is the duty of the police. In oneway its correct if we take some actions it will be controlled and be an warning for the other hotels.

For commenting on this incident by comparing with the Culture of Chennai and throwing wrong comments about the city is too bad. Mind you this is one of the old city which was under the domination of English for a long time and still the Indian culture is been living when compared to other cities because of the Chennaties.......Hats of too the Chennaities and the Peaceful chennai city.
