Thants Right Thing
by Bharat on Oct 03, 2005 05:29 PM  Permalink

There is nothing wrong in controlling such kind of obsence scenes in public places, which are unwanted, damaging the morals and traditions.

We should treat them as defensive efforts rather than as offensive efforts of moral police.

we just can't allow this kind of cultural degradition by our younger generation. We need our younger India be morally, ethically, culturally more stronger rather than blindly following westren culture.

what is this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Yamuna Venkatakrishnan on Oct 03, 2005 05:29 PM  Permalink

I am sure inspite of all that has been written in this column, things like this are going on in chennai.

Chennai is for sure not as conservative as has been described in this column.

Afterall what is wrong with colleges asking their students to dress decently to the college.Students can sure avoid sleaveless tops and tight jeans.

Who ever the big brother is,-his ways may not be proper but his message is deep, and not to be ridiculed like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How dare you kiss in Chennai?
by Hari on Oct 03, 2005 05:28 PM  Permalink

Ya. Chennai is the city of auto majors, city of reputed institutions, city of IT majors and city of culture too.
But now the things are not as it was. Thanks to globalisation and so-called "great" westurn culture.

Sitting in a park bench with a girlfriend or boyfriend is not wrong. The wrong thing is that their indecent activities in public places in the name of culture. Is it Right?
kissing a spouse is not wrong.but in public places it is wrong. No one will come and ask if it happen inside the bedroom. Is it Right?
dancing in public places is not wrong.but with out dresses is wrong. Is it Right?
do any one will encourage his or her son or daughter to have pre-maritial sex?If one is having the right to express his or her views means other one is having the right to protest that view.
Don't create scences with one side.Think about the other side.

how dare u kiss in india
by Muthu Kumaran on Oct 03, 2005 05:28 PM  Permalink

I don't know why the columnist thinks that these things are applicable only in chennai, I wish these are code of conduct applicable all over india, may be a bit liberal in other places.. yes we have our own traditions.....one should go for better examples, Japan-a country in the frontier of every sphere of technology...don't they follow their tradition. Its mad to not allow people to talk to opposite sex. But its fair to regulate the dressing. I've seen enough of these navel reveling dresses. If u want to show something let it be private, or announce that u r now public.. and then dress so, like nobody raises questions to actresses unless she is very popular..the days of the week concept is a blah blah blah from the columnist. again i don't see any place india where people would allow anybody to kiss in a public place, probably they may not stop u, but they will not appreciate that for sure, including the big brothers of other places in india, but they are very stern in chennai as they usually are,go back and see the history of this city, u can know more.a girl can wear anything that doesnt expose here, nobody has the right to stop, but they have to be checked when it exceeds limit.

Exaggeration to the extreme.
by Raj on Oct 03, 2005 05:26 PM  Permalink

Shobha,

Seeing your sense of imagination and especially exaggeration, I suggest you try your hand in writing soaps for the telly.

Regards,

Raj.

Really shocking
by Anirban on Oct 03, 2005 05:26 PM  Permalink

One would like to believe these are common place scenarios in the Middle-East, not somewhere in India. The question that comes to one's mind is, what, then, is the use of having a law and order? What, then, is the use of a Constitution and rules laid down? What, then, is the use of boasting of the largest democracy in the world?

The article could have been much better if the author had used some comparison between life in Mumbai, Delhiand some other important cities in India.
