Time for a change!!!
by Venkatesh on Mar 30, 2006 10:19 AM  Permalink

What is evident from this fabulously well written piece is that now is time for the young politicians to step up. The time for Big Brother is over. This new millenium awaits a liberal society with respect for human values, freedom of thought and expression, and a place to live life. Chennai would be better off by not being a Shangri La housed in the cellular jails of the the Andamans.

I guess the writer lives in the US!!!
by Baranidharan on Mar 29, 2006 12:45 PM  Permalink

It is very advisable to think well before posting an article in a mass media as our words and thoughts are likely to affect the millions of readers.
If India ever had any respect among foreigners, it is only because of its Cultural heritage and secularism. Pls dont try to paint a wrong picture as though Chennai is under the reign of the something like the Taliban.
If we have so much of affection for our wife or our Girl friend, let us show it to them alone within four walls and not make an exhibhition of it.
Let us understand that we go to Colleges to study and it is a good habit to dress up for the occasion.I guess none will stop you from wearing a tighttttt...Jean and sleeveles T-shirt when you are out of college. Try to put on such dresses in am MNC and dude u r sure to lose your job!! Then why does it hurt wearing it in your College? Let us value and appreciate the rich culture of India and laugh away at these kind of articles.

How dare you kiss in Chennai?
by Siddu on Mar 26, 2006 10:31 PM  Permalink

Whole article is written not to praise chennai but to spoil it's name.
Dude, All the scenes presentation are really just putting things in different way.
Don't tell me Boys and girls sitting in park putting their hand on shoulder will not kiss, I have seen people doing other things also in public places. Dance floor scene is never ever happened.
Whole story seems to be IMAGINATION. people have their privacy , independence. Chennai is beautiful city and lots of pleasures.
Even though I am from Karnataka and seen chennai as one of the Best.

Well Said
by Jathink on Mar 24, 2006 08:19 PM  Permalink

I agree with the author about the moral policing in Chennai , not only chennai , but many other places in India.
The disbelief expressed many of them when somebody pinpoints some wrong doings , is just the attitude of thinking everything in their city or state is perfect.
But this is highly condemnable . One needs to understands their mistakes and downfalls so to go ahead to make more progress.

Anyway the article makes good reading.

Nice article
by A member of this generation on Mar 23, 2006 08:08 PM  Permalink

Whoever wrote this, did a pretty good job out of it. But the fact remains that besides Chennai, there are places and people all over the country who wish to stop the growing influx of "western" attitude...
Why is it that we, the members of this generation, have so much explaning to do? If we can't be given the freedom to make our choices, then how can we be independent?

Cannot accept the points
by Manick on Mar 18, 2006 03:04 AM  Permalink

One point we can accept by observing this article is, the culture is being maintained to an extent when compare to other cities. But most of the points are deniable.

How dare you kiss in chennai?
by Jagadeesh on Mar 17, 2006 02:28 PM  Permalink

I feel pity towards the author and those who are agreeing with the views of the author.
He is totally misunderstood about chennai.
Probably he never stepped in to Chennai.
Forget about those comments which came in news papers and channels. Its just exaggeration to the most extent to what really happend. Also the topics which you are talking about are least significant areas to judge about a metro, there are many areas which you can really enjoy .Just look in to those areas.
If you stay in chennai you will never be able to come out of it.And if you learn Tamil and have interest towards music and movies, thats it you can almost settle there and live peaceful life.

A Warm welcome to Madras

Good Luck
