Don't kiss
by P.Vinayagam on Oct 04, 2005 01:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Acts of the Play scripted by Shobha are well known. No creativity is required.

Can you do kissing in Saudi Arabia or in any theocratic state which forbids public kissing? You can't. And you won't. Because, you have to go along with the culture of the country.

You can kiss in a public park or a road in New York. This is not public nuisance.

In Chennai, parents are concerned. So kissing in public is an act that may be taken for licentious behaviour. The responsible youth should avoid.

Opening the doors for MNCs does not mean opening ourselves to their kiss-in-the-public culture. The MNCs dont make a hue and cry, for, they know it. The free-lance writers who want their names in print will make as Shoba has done it!

how ridiculous!
by renu on Oct 04, 2005 01:26 PM  Permalink

i am shocked. as a woman and as a citizen of the country. the incidences described in the article are nothing but a clear picture of where we stand.all the policemen who act as gods should know that hugging and kissing may be inappropriate in public places but in private theres no law which can prevent that to happen. grow up. its 2005. as long as we knw our limits there is no need to make a hue and cry out of silly things such as hugging and kissing. and for heavens sake rape is not the result of wat a girl wears but a crime commited by some psycopath. all i want to say is grow up.....

chennai is a city of frauds... atleast 50% of the so called talented engineers are bloody frauds they simply pass out engineers like cars on assembly lines and do not have a decent standard.. lobbying is what they are good at and they always stand on somebody's reference ... they do not have the guts to survive where there are no tamilians..

poor losers... loud mouthed and highly hypocritic nature.. they should try to lose these vices otherwise they will be left behind.. far behind as india marches ahead..

Kissing in Chennai
by Swarup Som on Oct 04, 2005 01:11 PM  Permalink

Its was a nice little play and portrays in true light the sad double standards prevading Indian society. Possibly, in this direction, Indian can only be compared to erstwhile Afghanistan, where BIG BROTHERS & LEADERS arrogate powers to define moral standards of your personal life and your preference. Mere possession of progressive perspective towards sexuality is damnable lowly. Its is indeed hard to imagine that logically thinking Indians, argumentative Indians can tolerate such arrogance of some political leaders defining rules of engagement inside pubs and clubs. Its about time we woke up to the fact the "Decency" is one thing while "Imposed Morality" is something quite different. That we are going backward in terms of our Social Outlook is clearly proven by such governmental directives that Film Directors will now be barred from showing smoking scenes in movies and filmed media. With technology advancing at the pace its doing, we shall soon have machines reading mind, and that day our government shall surely have tools to regiment our thinking pattern and define what is a legal thought and what is not.

BAN public Kiss
by Kannan on Oct 04, 2005 01:07 PM  Permalink

The columnist is trying to twist the facts, the way it is narrated. Will any sensible parents allow/accept their sons/daugters behave the way it is narrated. What The columnist trying to tell is allow public kiss. Then allow everything in public.

We should always learn better things from western countries. There also The bahavings of the youngsters is a problem.

Not only Chennai, through-out the nation these bahavings (public kiss / Indecent dresses )should be banned

What nonsense you are preaching?

Who is the author of this article? Does he/she not want any discipline with the society? If no restiction is imposed on the people, particularly on young generation, you will happen to see/experience what is happening elsewhere in India (particularly in Delhi, Mumbai like cities) and in the rest of the world (in US like countries).

Do you know what ABCD means as popularly used among internet users? ABCD stands for America Born Confused Desis. This is what will happen if we have no control on us.

We have to understand our biological nature while keeping in mind the power and role of "Sixth Sense". It is only your discipline that makes you distinct over other animals.

Understand one thing. This is the land of great culture since the inception of human race on this earth that teaches the rest of the world how to live a human life. This is the only land that has thought even life after death.

I conclude with one thing.

SMALL PEOPLE THINK SMALL THINGS.

The Big brothers should be educated
by Madhu A G` on Oct 04, 2005 01:00 PM  Permalink

Hi Rediff,

I gone thru the article. This is absolutely absurd. I know the Big Bro's are haunting the city and corruption is wide across the dept. They have a feeling that they cant be controlled.

Time has come to stop and control them. Educate them first how to be polite to the common people. Educate them that they are for the people, to stop crime not to get in between the couples who are sharing the private moments in a park, Resturant or Beach.

Regards

Madhu.A.Gangadharan
