Death or Living Hell
by R Sriram on Nov 13, 2005 06:46 AM  Permalink

If the Indian Government goes back on its words, it may put into jeopardy any future attempts at extradition from other countries that do not have capital punishment. So we shoul not effect the death penalty on Salem. But why should we bother - 20 years of rigourous imprisonment should be made into a hell for him such that he should feel that death penalty would have been easier. I am not speaking of physical beatings here. There are other means for this. - R Sriram, Chennai.

Death Panalty for Abu Salem
by Vimal Ganguly on Nov 13, 2005 06:22 AM  Permalink

India should not give death penalty to Abu Salem, or Monica Bedi, because India has already given a written undertaking to Portugal. One should always keep one's word, otherwise we will not be taken seriously in future and it will damage our reputation internationally. They can however be jailed for life. After 25 years or more of jail, bith Abu Salem and Monica Bedi will be too old and weak to harm India anymore, so our problem from them will be solved that way.

what should we do with salem? Simple
by Sushim on Nov 13, 2005 06:19 AM  Permalink

It's of no use to keep these terrorists alive at the expense of the taxpayers...so, on pen and paper just give him life imprisonment and after a few months, just kill him inside in a very painful way and show it to the media that he got ill and hence died in a miserable way....when these people work too much outside the boundaries of law, they should be given the taste of their own medicine only.
Innocents died due to them...they don't deserve to be alive.

Eliminate him in a fake encounter
by Thirumalai on Nov 13, 2005 06:12 AM  Permalink

The crime that he committed on the Indian soil warrants a death penalty ( I prefer a brutal way ),
but our committment to the international community
especially Portugal, is a hinderance to such an verdict. We will lose our standing in the world and we can afford to lose it provided we do not have any more criminals to be extradited. So the best way is not to award him a capital punishment but eliminate
him in a fake encounter - in which our police's track
record is excellent.

Probably not
by ram on Nov 13, 2005 05:30 AM  Permalink

People like abu salem should be kept in a dark cell and tortured until they reveal the secrets of the underworld. As the CBI has assured the spain government that he wouldnt be executed, probably we should not kill him.But he is an excellent source of the unconspicuous threads that connect the underworld to the so called most respecatble people in the society.
