Death Penalty for Abu Salem
by wishwanath on Nov 13, 2005 09:50 AM  Permalink

SURE! He should not only be given death sentence but shoud be killed part by part for the crimes commited by him along with his gang.
I fail to understand, how Indian government could accept such pre conditions from another country for extraditing a Indian national who had commited and continues to commit henious crimes on Indian land? Naturally the law of the landshould apply.

Government assurance is superior...
by Shankar Ganesh on Nov 13, 2005 09:31 AM  Permalink

There are opinions voiced everywhere for abolishing death penalty. I also read somewhere that parliament may decide about abolishing the awarding of death penalty in courts.

Justice is part of the Government. The parameters for awarding the sentences for each of the crime has been suggested by Government in consultation with justice dept. Ultimately it is THE GOVERNMENT.

When I mention 'Government' here, it does not mean the Civil service. I am calling the decision makers and the elected ones to make decision, as Government.

There were instances where the President of the country had pardoned the death sentence awarded by the highest courts and converted the same as life sentence.

There were instances in some countries where parliaments had passed to remove the death sentences in specific cases passed by the Courts. This also shows that Parliament/ Government is superior to Justice.

In the specific case of Abu Salem, if Government of India has given assurance of not awarding death penalty, then it should be adhered.

Learn from the U.S
by Vinod on Nov 13, 2005 09:30 AM  Permalink

Haven\'t you seen how a presdient of another country is imprisoned and is being tried in the U.S? It is high time that the Indian government respects the lives of its citizens. Be it the Kanishk bombing, the AI hijacking, and now the Mumbai blasts, Indian govt has always showed a very meek and pathetic stand in getting to terms with the accuseds.

How is Portugal bound to Salem and why respect and adhere to a law that would prevent capital punishment for a high profile rowdy sheeter who has bathed in the blood of innocent people? And knowing very well that Dubai and the rest of U.A.E protects Dawood, the most wanted terrorist by India, we shake hands with them sighting diplomatic ties and gentlemanliness.

Although, we Indians cherish our tradition and laud our cultural roots, it is high time we start looking at a situation where across the world, any member of any fraternity think a thousand times before laying hands on an Indian citizen. After all if the U.S can do it , we can.

Thanks,
Vinod.

precondition in tral
by a.n.bhushan on Nov 13, 2005 09:29 AM  Permalink

it is absurd for government of india to give undertaking that the accused in mass murder case will not be given death penalty.
justice and the rule of law must prevail and also to
make sure that justice is not delayed.

Not another "share your comments" on rediff!!

Heres a question that you should be asking:

"should rediff stop asking readers to 'share their comments' for every goddam thing?" - Yes, you very well should.

Saleem should be give Death punishments
by Nilesh on Nov 13, 2005 09:10 AM  Permalink

Salem not only deserv death but he deserve a very very painfull death. I guess if he would have did same thing with Portugies people that he did with India and Indians, then what would be their punishment to him? I want to ask those people. I guess portugies government doesn't understand the pain of Indian people who went thro series of blast in Mumbai. And why do we care now, Saleem is in our hand. We will do whatever we want. In my opinian, he should hanged by rope 3 feet above the ground in cage of Tigers and let them have the feast of him peace by peace. Or let 100 crore Indians beat him by nailed boots one by one very hard.. This what I feel. If god is with Indians, then same way CBI captured Saleem, they should catch Dawood. Then I will put my opinion to punish Dawood by putting him in the room of thousands of deadly rats and let him bite slowly slowly..

YES - Execute him

A person like Abu Salem must be shown no mercy. Kill him to send a strong signal to the underworld and terrorist community.
