it is a shame of the tamilnadu state that khushboo had to tender an apology for a perfectly reasonable comment.
do not these people, who want her to apologize have any respect for women?

where are the women\'s organisations?
by sheeba k on Nov 15, 2005 06:27 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

its amazing that women\'s organisations who are so active in other parts of the country have been absent in their support of Khushboo in Chennai. For God\'s sake, this is the 21st century and this is a free society. If a woman wants to air her views on society, she has a right to do so, without having to be arrested or shamed in public for the same. How come Narendra Modi enjoys all the rights to free speech in this country? Would there have been such a hue and cry if the statement has been made by any of Khushboo\'s male co stars? It is not surprising that people in Tamil Nadu have reacted this way to her remark, what is surprising however is the total lack of support for Khushboo from either the media or any of the largely educated thinking class.

It appears that Shanta Kalingarayar is a fan of Suhashini. Nothing wrong with that position. But I would venture to suggest to Shanta to read the message from Ragavendra which is appearing on the first page just before her own messaage.

Independent of what her icon Suhashin says or not, independent of what Kushboos said or not, Shanta should question herself whether we need free-sex society as in the west and go through the same troubles their society is going through, as described by Ragavendra?

Kushboo Controversy
by RTR on Nov 14, 2005 12:46 PM  Permalink

It is my humble opinion that a non-issue is being exaggerated;
I do not know if Kushboo referred specifically to Tamil women in her statement.

I alos do not see Suhaasini to be totally wrong: She offered apology on behalf of Tamils and not ALL TAMILS. She is a tamil and she has some Tamils supporting her view point and her statement can be taken to be on behalf of those Tamils.

Above all, let me ask this:
There is a serial KANAVARUKKAAKA in SUN TV. The story portrays a woman marrying another man when her boy friend from whom she got a child is alive and is willing to marry her, realizing his folly. This woman is shown to be marrying another man giving some flimsy reasons. Is this in line with Tamil PaNPaadu? The protestors of Kusboo remark have not seen this serial?
What are they doing for thisZ?
Ridiculous.

Suhasini
by arasu on Nov 13, 2005 10:34 AM  Permalink

It is abosulutely rubbish remark from Suhasini who till now held a decent respect from all walks of people. Airing views / opinions about a particular subject is ones write but she should have refrained from going an seeking an apology on behalf of tamils. Her question "Does Tamils have Horn?" is to be condemned ruthlessly. Perhaps she doesn't know the literary depth of the language and the people.
If someone asks them if the views expressed by them holds good to them also will they be able to answer honestly?
It is "INGONOMIOUS REMARK SUHASINI & KUSHBOO"

Kushboo
by Vijay on Nov 13, 2005 08:50 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Male Chauvinism is some thing every women knows but they seldom talk about it. India Today has come out with far more serious Sex Issues and this one to which Kushboo has responded is her personal views. Why make such a big issue out of her statements.

Every Cup Board has A Skeleton is an old saying. Every Politician and the so called custodians of the TAMIL TRADITION will have some dirt on their own back! Yet they seem to be thriving on Silly Issues like this. Some Serious Questions:

Why is Prostitution such A Big Business? Why is there so much of an increase in HIV cases in India? How come there are more abortions of Un WED Women? (Some ABANDON the Child)

So many women have taken to streets for 'voicing' opinion against Kushboo! God only knows how many of them are 'Virtuous' and how many are 'forced' to tolerate 'Bigamy' in their own Families! Surely we have BETTER things to address and leave the Courts to function in clearing pending cases instead of adding some more.

The LAST Word on this is yet to be spoken!

Suhasini - Staunch advocate of women
by Shantha on Nov 12, 2005 11:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Considering Suhasini's contribution to the society through media...especially to the women through her programme "Ladies Junction"Raj TV ...it should be understood that she is an advocate of women...she travels from place to place everyweek ...meets women from different strata of society ... gives them the platform to speak out their mind ...which is denied to many of them even at home...discusses various topics to highlight the glory of women...creates in them he awareness to be successful....why should we forget this great service of Suhasini to the womenfolk when our politicians are trying to grab any issue to boost their image without doing anything substantial for the womenfolk of Tamilnadu...they are the people who abused our Chiefminister Jayalaitha physically in the assembly...

Sorry I strongly objct you comment.Nowhere in her film would you have seen Suhasini showing off her skin! Please do not bring every actress under this category.Days have changed. They involve themselves in social causes with a lot more sincerity than these politicians.Suhasin is one among them who upholds the dignity of woman in her career and personal life.

Hi
I agree with you that Suhasini is staunch advocate of women and she is aware of the problems women in India or Tamilnadu face. but pre-marital sex is not about the oppression or male-chauvinism.
Issue is if going for pre-marital sex is right or wrong. But who will decide this. The individual. But our society does not give that chance. despite of our traditions, today most of the girls who are having affair go for pre-marital sex. No doubt about that. The people who oppose it are either pretentious or never had chance.
There is one sentence i read somewhere recently. 'Virginity is no more dignity, it is just lack of opportunity'.
It is true. But we should have courage to accept that our society has reached such stage where the rules need to be redefined. And only strong preople can accept such hard facts. And I don't feel the people who have been opposing suhasini or khushboo are courageous enough to understand this.
Regards
Abbey

by Tony on Nov 12, 2005 09:25 AM  Permalink

What Suhasini has done for Tamil Community to talk behalf of Tamil community? Does she think that showing her skin in movies a great service to the community? Its a pity that actress like her are not at all bothered about our culture and ethos.
