Before the mayhem
by Amar Singh on Nov 02, 2005 01:56 PM  Permalink

This is no way a justification of the brutal murdering of the sikhs post Mrs. Gandhi's assassination, but why are no statistics on the numbers of hindus kiiled in Punjab prior to blue star shared here. The number of families that were forced to leave punjab and become refugees elsewhere, the number of brutal killings by the sikh terrorists, etc..these numbers would definitely be in thousands as well...its a cosmic law, what goes around...comes around.
Love & Peace, Amar

Mayhem after the assassination
by Naveen Kumar on Nov 02, 2005 01:40 PM  Permalink

Hi Payal,
you have narrated the artical really well, its quite intresting, and has covered the inception of skihism to the sacrifices they have made.

Payal i read other articals aswell relating to Operation Blue star, what worries me is everyone talks abt army going in to the Golden Temple. yes that absolutely worn, but my question is, Is it right and OK if the terrorist hiding in the holy place with arms and planning to kill people. Is that what a religion preaches, im not a scholar but i know a bit no religion tells anyone to kill others. It is people who preach they misinterprit the GOD's Word.

My sincere request for you and all thos who write articles abt Operation Blue Star, please for GOD sake Justify whether terrorist hiding in any Holy place Right?

Regards
Naveen

vengence .. will it ever end.
by jaya on Nov 02, 2005 01:29 PM  Permalink

i am really sorry about what had happend after mrs.gandhi's assasination.

i think no country is spared from the statement of 'politics and religion go together'. i really appreciate india (especially hindu and sikh faiths) for not using thier political power for forcing religious conversions.

again this country doesnt belong to one religion. we already know the level of vengence created by partitions. i think we all see a better prosperous country when we are educated enough to understand this.

i think for now we should take vengence against the poverty, illiteracy and misuse of power. that will solve all our problems in future.

by the way without the diversity (all these religions and cultures) india doesnt look good at all.

absorb the good things from your religion. GOD will take care of the vengence. only he can wipe the bad in us with a calamity like a tsunami or an earthquake.

now a days everybody is got a nuke. that is mutual destruction, i think we will take a pause from that idea atleast for some more time..

Mayhem????
by Satish Singh on Nov 02, 2005 01:25 PM  Permalink

While the whole nation has condemned the killing of innocent sikhs and normalcy has returned to Punjab, it is totally irrelevant to raise these issues now...there is just one unresolved issue - to punish the guilty of 1984 roits

rekindle the bad feelings
by Saurab on Nov 02, 2005 01:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am not sure why Ms Payal wants to re-open wounds of the past. Those were the black days which ought to be remembered from only one perspective - learning that religious riots are always detrimental to our nation (& its people) and so they must not be allowed to happen again.

However, Ms Payal seems to be rekindling the feelings of hatred once again, rather than highlighting the learnings from this past incidence.

I request the journalist to be more responsible when publishing something like this.

Y let a criminal get away? Killing of innocent ppl is not acceptable, but then criminals r not be set loose....for years whtever has happened in Punjab how do u justify tht, tell me how has it helped sikhs who along with hindus for all those years have lived under the shadow of fear. Sikhs will want to have seperate Khalistan then some other state or community will to want to seperate.....then wht....we have to live as Indians and not as hindus, sikhs, muslims or christians

India is secular
by ashok babu.t on Nov 07, 2005 05:57 PM  Permalink
Our President is a Muslim, Our PM is a sikh , the president of the ruling national party is a Catholic...what more proof u need for India's secularity.
remember,Still the USA is not ready to have a black president.. yet its called a superpower.

In a country of a billion people and 70% of them Hindus, there is no surprise that the Hindus dominate other minorities.
but that does'nt mean the minorities are left on the streets to rot .

Nobody is saying that what happened was correct. As to the question about terrorists hiding in a hindu temple, well, if I was an army officer and they killed 200 of my men, I would probably go after them with full force rather than sit behind. Remember that Indira Gandhi insisted on keeping the same security guards even after she was advised to change them. Sikhs are good people, unfortunately all this happened.

About the Riots, I genuinely feel responsible people must be brought to justice. The very fact that they were not shows the quality of governance in our country.

Dear Sodhi, Please don't look at the problem at a communal angle. Dont take the hooligans who roamed the streets of Delhi and Gujarat as representatives of Hindu majority. They are hooligans. Hooligans don't belong to any religion. They merely do what their political masters say. What happened in Delhi and Gujarat is failure of Law and order machinery and lack of Accountability of Political Leaders.

Mohanka's Article
by Arvind Nandan on Nov 02, 2005 12:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Editor,
Please do not publish such articles - Payal fails to talk about the killings that were being being carried out in early 1980s by terrorist agents of India's most troublesome neighbour. She fails to speak of the fact that assassinated Prime Minister's bodyguards were Sikhs - an indication of the trust placed in them even at the peak of terrorism! I fully denounce the act of Sikh murders after the assassination of Mrs. Gandhi, but Payal's article conveys a picture of a murderous regime as if it was systematically eliminating Sikhs - a la Saddam's killings a couple of decades ago.

Utterly bad article - if you had to choose one for today.

Dear Arvind Nandan,

You are an idiot. How can you justify killing of hundred of innocents in Golden temple, even if bhindrawala was hiding there. Our constitution says, not one innocent should get punished even if we have to let a criminal get away. Moreover, you tell me, if any of your terrorist like praveen togadia is hiding in a temple, and army fires on that temple killing all innocent along with him, would you justify it?

Regards

two decades have passed now and sikhs still look for justice. after whatever happened in 1984 and in gujarat one fails to understand how we call our nation a secular one. being a hindu dominated country we minorities can never live a peaceful life. a country which can not control its people has no right to call it a superpower. hindus will always try to dominate this nation.
god only can save india.

SIKHS AND HINDUS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ONE
by sanjay sharma on Nov 02, 2005 12:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I have lived in Punjab during it's most terbulent times.I have been very closely associated with Sikhs and the pinjabi community.
Well first of all I would like to say is that there is no difference between Sikhs and Hindus. They are both two faces of the same coin. They are like brothers and sisters sharing the same family values. Why then the divide? Well it all started from the British Raj and their policy of divide and rule.If Hindus are without their protectors(Sikhs) than they will be vulnerable. The British knew this very well.
What better way to rule the country.Well surprisingly the same policy was followed by the Congress after their masters (British)left the country.Divide and rule. That's the only way they had learnt to govern, caring little for the aspirations of the millions. What has it led to? It has just put the clock back to the days of uncertainty.
Well things are now changing in our Country.People realise the games politicians play. The coming to power of BJP and other regional parties are indication enough that gone are the days of the masters of the British Raj.It's the new generation which will take our country forward with Hindus and Sikhs both joining hands.

I can't get this concept of religon...According to me ....thing that is started by group of people in society is religon ..and thing that is started by a single person for good cause is Sect and for bad casue is cult..
Sikh is sect of Hinduism...They are part of India like any other person from North-East or South..we respect each other..Punjabis suffered a lot by Invaision in country.
But Bindranwale was terrorist...Indira Gandhi Killed a terrorist who killed inocent people in name of Khalsa ..He is Shame on what Sikhs have to for INDIA..till date...
Sikhs should'nt praise him..
They should forget the past and try to build a nation together with Hindus,Muslims,Christians,Bhuddist
We just can't point finger...we should make them aware ....of facts that we all are dependent on each other no on eis superior..nor Gujrati,Punjabi,Marathi,Bengali,Tamil we all are one part.....No one should fall prey for enemy beyond the boundries

Mohanka should also answer why terror perpetrators like Bhindrawale were being sheltered inside the Golden Temple - if that was fair, then there was nothing wrong in flushing them out through Operation Blue Star. Please do not infuriate people at this hyper-sensitive time, when terrorists do whatever they want, and writers like Payal argue on non-sensical points.

i completely agree . There is no excuse for allowing terrorists to take shelter and run the golden temple as their head office. Where was this author when this was happening? why this author didnt voice her opposition to terrorists committing sacrilege by making the sacred temple their home? The atrocities against the innocent Sikh community is deplorable and a shame to the secular Indian nation. But I fully agree to operation bluestar-flush out the bad elements hiding inside the Temple. The terrorist menace was finally wiped out of Punjab. A necessary sacrifice to keep India united and healthy on the long run.
