What are you telling us actually?
by Neeraj on Mar 22, 2005 12:29 PM  Permalink

Sure a good history of events to justify your article... you are right in the sense that visa denial was wrong action... but tell me this are you not touching the larger issues through this... and if you are, then perhaps you are supporting someone for wrong reasons... and let me also add what has not been done in the past does not imply that same mistakes should be repeated in present and future, and also that your defense is lackign self esteem... do not say if Rajiv etc were never denied visas ... target the real issues... what if they were denied... your arguements would just look incomplete...

Thanks,

Neeraj

Human Rights & Religious Freedom
by Kumar on Mar 22, 2005 12:26 PM  Permalink

It is quite funny - who talks about religious freedom? The present US Govt is notorious for being overly influenced by the intolerent religious-right on social, political and international issues. Whenever US talks about religious freedom & human rights it makes itself a laughing stock. It is good to see while the political parties were united to condemn the Modi, they are also united to condemn the US decision of brow-beating India.

Please suggst an alternative
by Yogesh on Mar 22, 2005 12:19 PM  Permalink

People responsible for 1984 riots remain free. Do not tell us that no body complained to US earlier (in 1984). Tell us how they could have got justice. Maybe they should have complained to US. Maybe a few of the current ministers would not have got US visas. Maybe that is all the justice people in this ocuntry should expect.

by Shriprakashsingh Rajput on Mar 22, 2005 12:18 PM  Permalink

Dear Shri Raman,
Thanks for your article about US denial for a VISA to Mr. Modi. I would like to congratulate you not for as if you defended Mr. Modi, neither do I, but for putting the whole episode in larger perspective to every Indian. The whole politics behind the episode has been successfullly made explicit in your article and I would request you to carry on with your work witthout fearing about so called secularists all around. Thanks.

Patriotism vs Chauvinism
by Jaideep Chanda on Mar 22, 2005 12:17 PM  Permalink

A large number of people are making a big deal out of the row created over denial of US visa to Mr.Modi. Some say its insulting to Indians while a larger majority has welcomed the decision. Well as far as insulting the Indians are concerned I totally disagree to that because we are a country, with issues much bigger than this. Moreover, if something that we should be ashamed of in the first place, are the riots itself and more than that the individual who has the max responsibility i.e. Mr.Modi. He already has given this country a lot of uncomfortable blushes in the international community, so this is nothing as compared to that. For all those people who say why wasn't Mrs.Gandhi rejected a visa??? We have to make a start for somewhere. Moreover, that wasn't a time of globalisation so it was not properly covered to give it the negative publicity required.I'll say, what Mrs.Gandhi did was wrong, and it is the responsibility of our current politicians to try & not let it happen in the future. For all those who think that the US' decision to reject Mr.Modi's visa is wrong, all I'll say is "THERE IS A VERY THIN LINE THAT SEPARATES PATRIOTISM FROM CHAUVINISM".
