The majoirity of the people have a right to determine their destiny
by Andy on Mar 24, 2005 01:11 PM  Permalink

The majority of the people have a right to determine their destiny - of course, democracy is the preferred solution and should be the first priority of all parites. But in the context of Nepal, where land reforms have been suppressed and rural poverty and illiteracy is among the highest in the world, there is no attempt on the part of the elected machinery nor the monarchy, to move Nepalese society towards these development goals, without which the vast majority of the Nepalese people will continue to grind in poverty for another 50 years. Indian govt should facilitate real democracy in Nepal, which reflects the aspirations of the majority of the Nepalese people to a better standard of living - as in today's world, the majority cannot be kept in a medieval feudal ignorance for long. Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen's book, 'Development As Freedom', very aptly states that development and freedom go hand in hand.

The pathetic and insidious commie Ashok Mitra has spoken. Commies never fail to amuse anyone. :-) He will support maoists against the king because king is against democracy despite the fact that King has said that he will restore it in 3-4 years.
What do Mitra's red diaper baby maoists plan to do. Install democracy after they defeat the king? Haha... Commie baby Mitra, whom are u fooling.

thats a good analysis. not like the 'hyped' theory that says maoists going to destroy India. Better to support the Maoists than the selfish monarchy. There shouldnt be any more monarchies in the 21st century.

Yeah. There should be no more selfish monarchies. There should only be enlightened Maoist dictatorships, especially in our neihbourhood.

Could you clarify how the theory that Maoists are dangerous to India is "hyped" up? THe Nepaleses Maoist leader has publicly proclaimed that the next step is a Maoist revolution in India and that his ultimate enemy is the Indian army. (Incidentally, he is the product of that communist JNU.)

PLeae enlighten the citizens of this country that how a Maoist dictatorship in Nepal will be better for India than its monarchy. In India, mental blindness among Indian citizens (especially those commenting on Rediff articles) should attract public flogging.

Look at India, these north Indian universities are in forefront of installing Sonia Gandhi and instigating revolution in their own country. Some of these people might have created such difficult situation in Nepal.

What is the problem supporting King
by Piyush Ranjan on Mar 09, 2005 12:30 PM  Permalink

I feel Indian government is for India and Indian people. They should look for what is good for India. Instead of being moral instructors for the world, we should look for our interests. Why should we care about democracy in Nepal. It will not be good for India if Maoist become powerful in Nepal.
All other countries pursue their interest above moral. West and US support Arab countries and Pakistan governments.
If government feel so morally inclined towards democracy, why is holding talks with Pakistan. It should ask Mushraf to step down.
Moreover, It is also morally wrong to support Mushraf, Arab countries and condemn the Nepal King.

Mr Ahosk Mitra learn to respect friends
by Nitin on Mar 09, 2005 11:05 AM  Permalink

Mr Ashok Mitra,

I dont know from which school u did ur edcuation from. But I guess at least ur parents would have taught u to respect friends and not to call ppl servents who stand by u.
Just like our great Indian state , we only respect ppl who are against us ,get frightened by their actions and can go to any extent to butter them.
But we never respect nations who stand by us in good and bad times. Its not ur fault , its in Indian blood and I hope India wont learn it hard way.
(Bhutan is a independent country and she respects her relations with India and more Indian culture ..they are not anyway subservient to Indians ...Please mind ur language)
thanks,
An Indian
