Isn't it irnoical that India seems to try so hard to be nice to her neighbors but is vehemently disliked and dis-respected by everyone around? The king of a puny country like Nepal that depends so much on India simply ignores India's "protests" after he usurps power. Bangladesh, a country that owes its independence to India, allows hundreds of camps that train terrorists to operate freely and sends in their rangers who kill our BSF jawans and return to their borders with impunity while the Indian govt registers a strong "protest" ofcourse. Pakistan, who was comprehesively defeated in the 1971 war and cannot even come close in terms of economic strength thinks of itself as our equal. Bhutan, a country almost the size of Aruchal Pradesh, until not so long ago was a haven for terrorists who operated on Indian soil. Would anyone dare do this to the US or for that matter to China? All this talk about peace and friendship is nice but, we should always talk from a position of strength and not like beggars. Its simply not enough to keep harping about being the next emerging super-power. India has to have the swagger of a super-power. Who will respect us if can't handle our own backyard?
Question is why not? Pakistan has smartly put the full burden of peace and friendship on India and India has always so naively accepted it. Further do you realise that Pakistan is 10 times North Korea and what negotiating power this gives them!!
what a fool where does rediff get these fellows, the only people who write in rediff these days have to eb anti congress, anti muslim and anti communist, what was ur favourite party BJP doing when it was in power for the last 5yrs, why didnt they do all these things, why didnt they save the pandits, why didnt they finsih off pak, other then let the pak army walk into our territory unnoticed and then go lose abt 500 brave soldires to get them out and then escorting 3 hard core terrorists to the hijackers of IC 814. kashmir is a complex problem and its not gonna be solved in a while and even if any agression is there on the pak side we have an army quite capable of knocking them out
The only thing that really annoys me about this article is the negative mindset of the author. When are we,as indians going to get rid of the inferiority complex. We have achieved a lot in past 50 years,so why not be proud of it and just strive to improve it?

Because we are still hankering for peace with a country that doesnt want peace. They want our land. If some guy comes into your house and occupies one of your rooms will you negotiate with him? Or will you kick him out? The article is well written and a reminder for us to take a hard stance like Musharraf has. Cant you see that Musharraf is being difficult but expecting us to be cooperative? Why should we give in? Sindh was ours. Ask for Sindh and see what response they give us.
2. So criticise what the government does, do you have an alternative to suggest ?
3. Given a chance Kashmir would secede, we have to find ways tokeep it,the author may not have any relative in the army, but it impacts the lives of the army the relatives of the 5 lac plus army personnel and the Kashmiri's themselves to live in this "occupied" and beseiged status. So alternatives have to be tried, some might work some might not. 4. The fact that the mullah's in pakistan are angainst ths bus is a very good indicator that this is good for peace.
India goes on preaching democracy to the world blindly following the foot steps of Great Britain and US leaving alone our own strategic importance of Nepal thereby losing its support forever...similarily we are giving up all that we have to our arch rival simply to please the world...that we are making progress on peace...nothing else...India cannot give protection to Hindus in their own country...Even the NHRC always talks about the minority welfare..not the human welfare...and India is destined to be a failed state...nothing else .. and a lot more is there to be said...
