This is an article which every Indian should read. A very informative article from a man who has served our country, knows the subject. I am very much ashamed of our political show which has no respect for our fallen heros and the defence. Why don't we trust and listen to the people who are entrusted with our security. The Indian people pay and serve, for defending the country and not the civil servants or political leaders. If the people in the civil structure can't respect or defend the actions of our forces then they should not be in those positions. Where in the world would you find such political actions? This political structure can offer "Dual Citizenship" to people who chose not to remain Indian, for what? How many wars, change of regime, stupid peace moves we have face to find a solution? Whom our government is trying to be friendly with? A country with a government who cant even control their tribal people (if thats what they are telling the world.)? Invaders dont become friends, they remain enemies and to kill enemies we have military. Thats the whole point of having a military.
My greetings to author and I will look forward to more of his future articles.
Dr. Anil, this is a brilliant analysis put in very simple terms. It is quite well proven that our Politicians are unfit and underqualified to protect our nation. Peace is perfunctionary... Only a strong military can ensure peace and save lives of the citizenary... its a shame that we pander our national interests for worl recognition!
If any government makes a strategic blunder then it should not be allowed to stay. Vacating Siachin will have severe impact on future security of India and Indians. Government just can't make decsions of such affect without taking the mandate on the issue.
Kudos to Col Athale for pointing out how absymally the political leadership of India has been failing the people in Protecting the objectives that the brave & capable defence forces fight for & win.
The army is right in not trusting the politicians on defence matters. Kind of like Yudhishtir throwing away everything during the dice game.
Oh well, we're secular & non-violent & all for peace, so that must count for something, to some one, somewhere...Our enemies definitely love us for it!
I fully agree with the facts given in the coloumn. Our political leaders for their own selfish benefits interfere into matters of national security and take wrong decisions. There should be no political interference into the Defence matters of country. The earlier decisions capturing and giving back a post to pakistan again is an example of cowardness. The single solution of Kashmir issue is "Kashmir is a part of India only".
This One of the best writeups I have read in the recent times. It is away from world of a common men, but about the exemplury work, what our brave soldiers are doing for our country which makes them so dignified ,respectful , different and way ahead from a civilian. This kind of topic are important to enlighten us about the happning , struggle and challenges of far side of the world. This kind of knowledge sharing writeups should appear more frequntly which can give us much deeper sight as well as inspiration. The information linked with the topic is really well related and very interesting. Keep it up and good work. Jai Hind
It is distresing to read this article which shows our leaders had failed in the past. There is no point in telling that Siachin is a useless piece of real estate. So did Pandit Nehru when he described Aksai Chin as an area where not a blade of grass grew. He was given a quick retort by the redoubtable Mr. Mahavir Tyagi.
As the author says: "India never understood the vital strategic importance of the northern Kashmir. This is an area where China and Cental Asias meet." Even today the dismal attitude prevails at the decision-making areas. Public opinion is being prepared to give up Aksai Chin for some benefits in NE Sector.
We need to give a greater attention to this area keeping in view the possible future trends in this area.
But this needs strong political will. Is it possible now?
first of all thanks the writter for givin we civilians such a valuable information of our borders. but i would like to ask why is the indian government so soft on pakistan? what is the use of gettin international applause by not crossin the LOC and riskin the lives of our soilders, cilvilians and the peace of the nation?
it is a question of national integrity/sovereignty, and not of waste or fertile land. if the latter, then why the vast tracts of Runn of Kutch under dispute? as far as cost of chapattis is concerned, anyone who is sattrical about it, let him/her live on the Saltoro Ridge just for a few days, I will pay for whatever number of chapattis he/she consumes while being there!
