Why Siachin matters?
by s subramanyan on Jun 16, 2005 04:55 PM

It is distresing to read this article which shows our leaders had failed in the past. There is no point in telling that Siachin is a useless piece of real estate. So did Pandit Nehru when he described Aksai Chin as an area where not a blade of grass grew. He was given a quick retort by the redoubtable Mr. Mahavir Tyagi.

As the author says: "India never understood the vital strategic importance of the northern Kashmir. This is an area where China and Cental Asias meet." Even today the dismal attitude prevails at the decision-making areas. Public opinion is being prepared to give up Aksai Chin for some benefits in NE Sector.

We need to give a greater attention to this area keeping in view the possible future trends in this area.

But this needs strong political will. Is it possible now?
