One should recognise that despite all the criticism of the socialist mode of governance it is because of the investments made by the Govt. that we have the infrastructure and have had the training ground for our manpower. If we had invited foreign capital ab initio or relied on our blinkered and short sighted private sector, India would by now have been colonised and backward once again. I am a firm believer in the benefits of free enterprise and capitalism but also realise that the public sector has kickstarted the progress made by this country. Let us therefore be a little less harsh on them.

I agree with Rajeev Srinivasan that Indians are quite capable of elevating themselves using their ingenuity. When they need help from the government, it is to enable them to get started in any particular field of activity. From then onwards, the government has to show enough faith in their ingenuity and make the path simpler and more reliable for them.
Rajeevs IT example may after all be the indicator of things to come. Technology is going to be most likely the motivator for many of the quiet revolutions of the future, not just in the area of gentrification of the society. The growing popularity of computers and the Internet is going to revolutionize the delivery of public services. Mr.Rajeev, Theres a huge difference between survival and living. What Ur Keralites do in Middle East is abject slavery. Also the IT honchos you mentioned have to toil 14 to 16 hrs / day and if they are in Far East then God knows how many, for their bread and butter. None of these persons can enjoy a peaceful life with their near & dear in a place dearest to their heart, which if you dont know, is called living. The other side of the coin is that the countries OR the Indian states these people moved into were not xenphobic. Once they become then we can see the ugly images similar to street fights happened between Mahrashtrians and Biharis OR Biharis and Assamese. So till the doors are open there are celebrations and when it closed what will happen - well you do know about the story of frogs in a well right?

And your point Mr Ramki ? That we stay like frog's in the well and not even try for these jobs or ridicule them and go back to the time when the only good job was a govt job ( which were limited and in which you had not even to work to earn your pay and pension). Instead of ridiculing these jobs be grateful to them for they are contributing to the nation's development.

One does not have to go out of his or her State for developing the Nation. Don't tell me that every Keralite goes out of his Statekeeping in mind the necessity develop God's own country. Kerala has cent per cent literacy. Every Keralite is a cut above the average. The citizens belonging to other States cannot equal Keralites. They are the most enlightened and naturally they should condescend to look at people belonging to other States and they do so. Unfortunately, in spite of all these blessings, Kerala is still backward in comparison to the neighbouring States. They are not getting their due. I too weep with them.
Its good that the whole country is transforming because of NRI cash inflows. But i am wondering what will be the future of small towns and villages in india? surely they will be full of elderly parents whoose children are either in indian metropolitan cities or abroad sending money home.The only young or adult persons will be those who are in services there and could nt get out from the villages.
surely the government needs to do a lot for equitable distribution of employment oppurtunities or developmental activities otherwise India may end up as a country in which all the younger people and workforce live in few cities (thus stretching the resources there to breaking point) and all the elderly people living in villages and small towns.
Why dont you go back to your grandparents place and see what mix of people lives there? surely you will be surprised.
