It is quite heartening that the Election Commission of India has endorsed for good of people, in favour of casting negative vote. However, I am sure that the proposal will not see the day light, if what Mr Lingdow, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India stated is recalled about our political system.
Damn good idea. I wish it could have been provisioned for in the Constitution itself. As that was the time when forefathers could not have imagined/anticipated the crucification/deterioration of honesty and public service intent by legislators/Parliamentarions. Let the Governement led by the scholar Prime Minister ably assisted by well intentioned Bureucrats and administrators take the bold step by supporting the issue of rejecting altogether unwanted elements from Politics. At the height of World War II, Winston Churchill was asked why the Allies were opposing the menacing advance of the Axis juggernaut across Europe. He replied, " so that somewhere, in some unknown country,in an unknown polling booth, an unknown citizen, can put a cross against some unknown candidate, belonging to some unknown party."The PUCL should educate the voters and set up a suitable candidate who can serve the citizens.Negative voting will not debar the elected candidate from winning the elections.Citizens should shed their lethargic & fatalistic attitude towards authority and express themselves more volubly throughout the year. This will be much more effective than snoozing and casting a negative vote, and again relapse into slumber.Thee are many avenues to express our concern over current matters.Right to information, transparency, and accountability should be maintained rigidly.
What the EC has suggested is a Zero-vote: "I don't want anybody"; or would you call it a Secular Vote?. What we need is a real negative vote: "I don't want THIS rogue in ANY circumstance." Each such negative vote should have the weight of [minus]-three votes.
i think EC can really make a sensible & logicial report by looking on the negative vote. as a good citizen one always has to vote, even if he does'nt like the contestants. this sometimes lead to unthoughtful voting by voters who get influenced by last minute posters, party people outside the booth & obnoxious things.
