Do human and democratic rights matter to RS and the RSS ? Are there some 'loftier' principles that guide these super patriots which lesser mortals are unable to divine?
If I get some sense of the article , its this. India should throw all democratic and international norms to the winds as we join the hated commies and the US in their 'perceived' land grab and anyone who opposes this cynical advocacy of land grab is not patriotic enough!!
It is my opinion that your posting is racially-biased to the point of inciting hatred based on cooked-up information. I admire your extrapolation ability, but it is perhaps important to note that not every action taken by a country is meant to target another. This sort of cold-war mentality is what's keeping friendship at the most basic level from blossoming. I'm not suggesting that everyone let its guard down, but maybe it'll be helpful to your understanding of the the Chinese people by running some ideas by your Chinese counterparts if you ever meet one.
Coming from a small town of India, in her North-East, the developments of Nepal only sends a shudder of shock across the spine and evokes gut-wrenching frustration. Having achieved its ploy in Nepal it will only be a matter of hours for North-East India to be cut off from mainland (connected by "Communist" Bengal). While Tezpur will go the way of Tibet this time, our think tank will once again "cry" their heart aloud over tea in the canteens of JNU. Not for the first time, our leaders have proved to the world that we are a nation of lambs and ostriches.
Hello, Naxalites never did anything good for downtrodden. They are terrorists in the name of doing something for downtrodden destroy everything which is so much of pain to a common man. They are all land grabbers and pure terrorists who kill innocents including the downtrodden. You dont know what is hapenning in AP. State is going to dogs. About RSS is not a terrorist organization, they are nationalist organization for whom country is above. They dont ask for publicity they do selfless work. If you dont know bettor dont write crap. Even Supreme Court of India threw down a case to ban RSS Still people like these are in India, there is no scope. Rajeev sorry to say there are very few pjavascript:validate() javascript:validate()eople in India who think you are right.
People should not write articles about foreign countries if they seem to have so little knowledge of the internal politics of those countries.
Mr. Srinivasan writes "I'm afraid history is repeating itself. Once again, China has a clear plan: to remove the next buffer state. It may be remembered that China considers Bhutan, Nepal and Sikkim, as well as Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Uttar Pradesh as their rightful due, because at some distant point in the past, Tibetans had some religious tutelary rights in these areas. Han Chinese are into land-grab..."
Did Mr. Srinivasan not recollect the fact that Sikkim was an independent nation that was "landgrabed" by India????
Furthermore, in his later paragraphs this is what he write : "Thus we can expect Nepal to disappear into China's maw unless India takes action......."
Does his whole column mean that if we dont "landgrab" Nepal quickly, then China will do so??? Is this what you mean Mr. Srinivasan????

Sorry Nandita,
You may be right that sikkim was an indiapendent state but so were the other states of INDIA and they were merged into one country after independence. If India had not done that then others would have. China had captured, as everybody know around 500,000 sq KM of Indian Northern territory even after integeration of all the scattered states into one country, INDIA. That was invasion. Not that the Sikkim involvement in India. That's integeration of the states which are aloof and cornered. I believe, in today's international political situation no small and free state can be independent in its decison making and would be trickling down the economical graph and overall growth of the country. Look at burma, myanmar and other small patches on world map. They are almost exploited and destined to loose the race with the big fishes like china and othe neighbouring expansionist. So I believe inclusion of Sikkim in India was iminent otherwise China was always looking at it and I believe even now is in her sight.
When author said India should act before maoist take over Nepal doesn't really mean to capture but to capitalise on the borders to maintain there integrity.
I remember the debate in college in 1960 about this. I was unpopular, because I projected Nehru's polocies as disaster to the future generations in almost every debate. His polocies would give enoguh time to the commies to ascend to heights that would support China to take Tibet. I projected that Nepal would pay a dear price follwed by the bordering Indian states like Himachal Pradesh. I mentioned that the only reason Tibet and Nepal did not fall yet was because there is some international monitoring and American concern. When Nixon and Kissinger forged a love affair with China, I was already in USA - and felt sad for the future of Buddhists in Tibet and Hindus in Nepal. China effectively neutrlized America with its economic relationship and friendship with American alley, Pakistan. If India does not wake up and thinks it is great by arresting their religious leaders, harrasing the good and weak and appeasing the bad- the next generation of Indians will be slaves to the invaders once again. That is the only word that came to my mind as I read this article. No doubt, Mr.Srinivasan is one of those Indians who believes that all minorities (and indeed everyone who does not look like him) is boggin the country down. He's one of the people who regularly pays bribes to govt. officials to get his work done, then uses up his spare time to blame others for his faults. Sino-Islamist plot? Unfinished business of 1962? Buddhist connection? Time to get back into the real world man!
I'm so glad this article has been written and actually published; my only hope is that people will read and react! As a Nepali-American who has much of her family still in the motherland while these atrocities occur, I cannot help but agree with this incredibly prophetic commentary. Soon Nepal will end up very much like Tibet--a once fairly well- known, peaceful land soon forgotten-- if nothing is done. Please write letters to your local and state representatives to appeal on an international level to King Gyanendra!! Jai Nepal.
